Borouge awards expansion deals
Abu Dhabi: Borouge has awarded four contracts for its petrochemical complex expansion in Abu Dhabi.

The front-end engineering design (Feed) contract for an Olefins Conversion Unit (OCU) was awarded to ABB Lummus Global. When completed, the OCU will be the world’s largest at 752,000 tonnes per year (tpy). The project will take around 32 weeks to complete and will be carried out by the ABB team in Houston.
Work to start the Feed contract for the polyolefin units was awarded to Fluor Mideast. The contract will be executed from Fluor’s offices in Holland and the US, and is expected to take around 40 weeks. The first phase will be completed by September.
Maersk Logistics was selected as Borouge’s supply chain study consultant to advise on the supply chain concept for Borouge 2 products.
Borouge 2 is a multi-billion dollar project, one of the largest petrochemical projects in the Middle East. It will see the company expand its production capacity from 600,000 tpy last year to 2 million tpy of enhanced polyolefins.

Dubai Lagoon phase II launched
Dubai: Dubai Lagoon has launched the second phase of its property development, which will feature studio to two-bedroom properties with fully furnished kitchens as standard.
All buildings, which will be based around a sapphire coloured lagoon, will be ready for occupancy by June 2008.
Dubai Lagoon is located at Dubai Investments Park. The contemporary design comprises a residential apartment community planned around a lagoon. The community is spread over 1.75 million sq ft with 53 buildings consisting of studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom and penthouse apartments.

Ghantoot gets Jumeirah Village work
Dubai: UAE real estate developer Nakheel has awarded Ghantoot Transport and General Contracting a Dh367.2 million ($100 million) contract to provide infrastructure at Jumeirah Village north.
The 18-month contract includes construction of internal roads, telecommunications infrastructure and potable water, sanitary and drainage systems.
Dar Al Handasah (Shair & Partners) of Beirut is the consultant. The project manager is the local Limitless.
Jumeirah Village is located adjacent to Jumeirah Islands off Sheikh Zayed highway. It calls for the construction of 7,000 one to four-bedroom villas and townhouses.
The development will be divided into four districts and incorporate Arab and Mediterranean architectural designs.

Al Seef launches Marina Star
Dubai: Al Seef Investments has launched its first real estate property, Dubai Marina Star. It plans seven real estate projects, which will be launched over the next year. Its total project development is valued at Dh2 billion ($544.5 million).
Dubai Marina Star, a 25-storey tower located in Dubai Marina, will be completed in November 2008.

APCC wins tower deal
Dubai: Cayan has awarded Al Dhafra Piling Foundation Contracting (APCC) a Dh40 million ($10.9 million) enabling works contract for its luxury residential tower, Infinity. As one of the tallest towers in Dubai Marina, the 80-storey (330 m) structure piling will extend 60 m below ground level.
Projacs has been appointed project manager and Khatib and Alami the lead consultant for the job.

Zabeel Hall work on track
Dubai: Development work on Zabeel Hall, the new exhibition hall for the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC), is moving ahead following the official ground-breaking ceremony.
Zabeel Hall will add 15,000 sq m of exhibition space to DICEC, increasing the available space by 30 per cent. It is set to open in September, providing significant additional capacity for conventions and exhibitions, and enabling the centre to welcome more companies from around the world.

EBS accord with China firm
Dubai: Emirates Building Systems (EBS), a subsidiary of Dubai Investments Industries, has announced the signing of a joint venture agreement with China Jingye Construction Engineering Contract Company (CJYC) for the construction of high-rise buildings, stadiums and aircraft hangars in the Middle East and North Africa.

Plans for second Grosvenor tower
Dubai: Less than 12 months after the opening of the iconic Grosvenor House in Dubai, the property’s owner Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum has announced the development of a second tower for the property. The extension, to be called Grosvenor House The Residence, will have 288 furnished suites and five waterside villas looking out over Dubai Marina, and is scheduled to open by the end of 2008.

Trinity wins Indigo Icon work
Dubai: Emirates Properties Investment has appointed Trinity Engineering Services as the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contractor for Indigo Icon, a new commercial development designed by internationally celebrated architects, Atkins.
