Charilaos Apostolides (Chapo) the main contractor for the Meena 7 development, part of the Amwaj Island development, has recently taken delivery of Atlas Copco’s XA 136 portable air compressor to meet the on-site air power requirements on the project.

Chapo is also using an Atlas Copco QAS 228 generating set to meet its site electrical power.
The $34.5 million contract with a 20-month completion date was awarded to Chapo early last year. “Recognising the need for both electric and air power requirements, the contractor initially installed an Atlas Copco QAS 228 generating set, rated at 226 kVA, to provide site base load power,” says an Atlas Copco spokesman.
“The contractor has also relied on several Atlas Copco portable air compressors including a recently-delivered XA 136 – ordered through local distributor Gulf Equipment Technology.
“The compressor, rated with a free air delivery (fad) of 135 l/s at bar 7, is used to meet air requirements for power tools and breakers around the site,” he explains.
The Amwaj islands development is a group of man-made islands situated 2 km off the coast of Muharraq totalling 30 million sq ft and designed to offer a combination of world-class residential neighbourhoods, commercial districts and resorts.
The $1 billion project that can be accessed via the recently opened Shaikh Khalifa Bridge, has several islands, each connected by interconnecting bridges being constructed by local contractor AA Nass.
“The overall project features at least nine developments all offering water frontages or sea-views and are a mix of low-rise condominiums, apartments and canal or beach frontage villas,” he says.
The Meena 7 development comprises seven condominium towers ranging from six to nine storeys and forms part of the larger Al Marsa Floating City.
Covering an area of 22,722 sq m, Meena 7 will provide a total of 213 apartments, a number of indoor and outdoor swimming pools, spa, a business centre and a private beach. It also includes a floating restaurant, fast food restaurants and a shopping mall.
Apartments vary from one-bedroom to three-bedroom options and the development has been designed by Plan Architecture and Design.
