The National Central Cooling Company (Tabreed) has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi University to supply district cooling services to the university’s new campus in Khalifa City of Abu Dhabi.
The campus is being erected over a 4 million sq ft area at a cost of approximately Dh200 million ($54.5 million). Construction commenced in April this year, with th efirst phase of the project scheduled for completion this September, in time to accommodate around 5,000 students for the 2006-2007 academic year and with a total capacity of 10,000 students in the final phase.
The setup of centralised plants used in district cooling systems achieves economies of scale, which have a tangible impact upon energy consumption, building space requirements and capital expenditure, says a Tabreed spokesman.
Dany Safi, Tabreed’s CEO said: “It gives us great pleasure to team up with Abu Dhabi University and to provide them with our services. The new campus was designed based on the latest technologies used in educational developments and now, by connecting to district cooling, Abu Dhabi University will join a number of other prestigious educational institutions that benefit from district cooling.”
