THE Western Region Development Council (WRDC) of Abu Dhabi is on track with a slew of major housing projects, said director general Mohamed Hamad bin Azzan Al Mazrouei.
As many as 1,200 houses are to be built in Liwa, while 800 new homes in Madinat Zayed have been completed.
In addition, 800 houses are planned in Mirfa, 700 in Ghayathi, the number of units for Sila will be increased to 600 from 400, while Dila will get another 300 houses as well.
Social housing is high on WRDC’s list of priorities as it strives to provide for its growing population and at the same time, diversify its economic base.
Some of these housing projects have already been signed off to contractors, including Sila which has just been awarded to Sorouh Real Estate Company, Mirfa which will be signed soon, with Ghayathi on the waiting list, followed by Liwa, Al Mazrouei said.
Also known as Al Gharbia, the Western Region accounts for 83 per cent of the land mass of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
WRDC plays a key role working closely with the relevant government entities within Abu Dhabi to improve social development, education, healthcare, and infrastructure for the region.
It is also the organisation’s role to promote Al Gharbia locally, regionally and internationally to attract investment and tourism, Al Mazrouei added.
