BARWA Al Khor, a subsidiary of Barwa Real Estate, has embarked on a one-of-a-kind huge integrated city project, worth a staggering QR35 billion ($10 billion).
The Urjuan project – located in Al Khor and targeted for completion by 2013 – was showcased to investors at a one-day exhibition in Doha last month. It will be the closest community to the proposed Bahrain-Qatar causeway, the Friendship Bridge.
Designed by the Canadian firm, Cansult Maunsell, the 5.5-million-sq-m development will have over 24,500 housing units consisting of a beachfront luxury hotel and resort, and luxurious apartments, able to accommodate over 63,000 residents.
The project includes extensive gardens and tourist attractions such as a world-class hotel business club and resort, and an 18-hole international golf course over 686,000 sq m, in addition to a golf club building and a tennis academy.
Named after an ancient and valuable dye-like substance (of royal purple colour) that is native to the Al Khor area, Urjuan represents Qatar’s rapid economic growth and its efforts to preserve its cultural heritage.
The project will also incorporate two world-class hotels, including a luxury beachfront resort with 340 chalets and 40 units on the waterfront with full leisure facilities and a marina, in addition to a business hotel adjacent to the commercial area offering 200 rooms and 400 serviced apartments.
“Since its inception, Barwa Real Estate has assumed the responsibility of leadership within Qatar and is committed towards building the future of Qatar. Through our slogan ‘Qatar’s Future’, we aim to address the current and long-term needs of the real estate sector in Qatar,” said Ghanem bin Saad Al Saad, chairman and managing director of Barwa Real Estate.
