Buoyed by the success of its previous edition, Alumex 2007 – the fourth international aluminium exhibition – is scheduled to be held at the Dubai International Convention Centre from April 22 to 24 next year.

The exhibition will focus on the building and construction sector where aluminium is now playing a major role.
“Being organised by Trans Continental Fair Management, Alumex 2007 is the only exhibition in the UAE dedicated entirely to aluminium and its technologies,” says a spokesperson for Alumex.
“It will offer exhibitors an unique platform to display and demonstrate to architects, designers, engineers and contractors of the region the many qualities of aluminium and its functional use in structural applications as well as in building and construction industry. It will also provide an excellent opportunity to establish profitable business relationships for producers and users of plants, machinery and products in the aluminium industry,” he adds.
Besides the usual exhibition and the reference market, Alumex 2007 will also host a conference that will focus on the use of aluminium in buildings, where experts from the international and local aluminium industry will be addressing various topics relevant to the innovations and potential future developments of the downstream aluminium industry in the UAE and the Middle East. The main topics of the conference will include:
• Building applications of aluminium systems that includes profiles for frames, curtain walls, partition walls, panels and roofing, surface finishes and machines and systems for final processing operations on profiles;
• Aluminium extrusion technologies which comprises machines, equipments, plants, processes and applications;
• Rolling technologies comprising plants, machines and products;
• Surface treatments;
• Aluminium foundry technologies for machines, equipment, plants, processes and products for die casting and classical foundry;
• Environment and regulations.
The Gulf region is characterised by an unprecedented growth in building construction which is accompanied by an increase in the demand for aluminium systems, technologies and products, such as profiles for frames, curtain walls, partition walls, panels, roofing, facades and solar protection systems. New and innovative design and production technologies and know-how, linked especially to surface finishing and final machining operations have also become popular.
According to the statements of the Arab Unified Economic Council, the production of aluminium in the GCC countries accounts for 8 per cent of world production. In the past 30 years many expansion initiatives have taken place so that its current capacity amounts to 830,000 tonnes of primary aluminium. This light metal is recognised by architects and fabricators for its many technical and aesthetical qualities and is considered the metal of the future in the building and construction industry in the region.
The Alumex trade fair, which was launched in Dubai by Trans Continental Fair Management in 2001, enjoys the full support of primary aluminium producer Dubal which has the largest single site aluminium smelter in the Western world. The event has included various international experts speaking on topics linked to technological innovations in the field of extrusion, anodising, die-casting and coating among others with the 2005 edition having attracted exhibitors from the entire Middle East and 25 other countries.
