Sky Oryx, a joint venture of the Turkish airport operator TAV and Japan’s Taisei have received the go-ahead for the $800 million passenger terminal contract at the Doha airport.
The passenger terminal design-and-build contract is considered to be the largest package among the 34 tender packages that will eventually be offered in the $5 billion project.
Construction of the building is planned to begin within a month. The Doha project will be the fourth overseas project undertaken by the TAV Group.
The 30-month contract will include the construction of concourses A and B that will eventually handle 12 million passengers a year.
The joint venture, Sky Oryx earlier included Arabian Construction Company (ACC). But the company recently pulled out of the consortium just prior to winning the bid for the Doha Airport Terminal. All parties have described the decision as amicable and consensual.
The venture will now be assisted by France’s Aeroports de Paris for the detailed design work.
“ACC’s pulling out of Sky Oryx has not affected the relationship between the companies,” said Ani Ray, TAV director and Rachid Mikarti, ACC director.
ACC and Turkish construction company, TAV, are together bidding for the Etihad Airport Terminal project in Abu Dhabi.
