Dubai-based Majid Al Futtaim Investments has awarded a joint venture of Cebarco and Malaysia’s WCT the main contract for the BD155 million ($419 million) Bahrain City Centre mall.
The City Centre, believed to be the largest shopping complex in Bahrain and the second largest in the Gulf, will be located in the Seef area and calls for the construction of a 1.5 million sq ft, three-level shopping centre with a gross built-up area of about 450,000 sq m. It will be larger than the City Centre mall situated at Deira, Dubai.
The main facilities include the Middle East’s largest 20-screen Cineco cinema, along with more than 350 shops, 10 anchor stores and a 54,000 sq ft family entertainment centre called Magic Planet. The complex will also house two hotels with a total of 700 rooms, which will directly link to the mall itself. Other facilities will include 30 international restaurants and Bahrain’s first Carréfour hypermarket, which will span 172,000 sq ft. There will be 6,000 covered car parking spaces.
