The second stage of the dredging and reclamation work on Bahrain's Amwaj Islands project is expected to be completed by September next year.
The land formation and reclamation work which currently under way involves an estimated eight million cu m of sand.
The project covers an area of 2.7 square miles of offshore land northeast of Qalali, Muharraq. The project involves a mixed-use residential, commercial and resort type community including private beaches, marinas, and midsized to five-star hotels.
Stage two of the work will start once the contract for dredging, reclamation and land formation goes to the successful bidder. The developers said that 35 per cent of the dredging and reclamation work of the stage one was complete with the contractors installing some 2,400 of the 6,670 m of geotubes.
