More than 40 firms from the UK are set to exhibit at the Big 5 Show 2001, which will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre in Dubai, UAE, from October 27 to 31.

The group of some of the biggest names in the UK construction industry - organised by exhibition company WSI International in conjunction with Build-Ex (UK) and The Building Centre - will be the largest British presence ever at the show, taking up most of Hall 6.

Supported by Trade Partners UK, the group will exhibit around WSI's central hub stand which provides telephone, fax and Internet links as well as extensive lounge and hospitality services exclusively to all exhibitors in the 'Build British' pavilion.

British building products manufacturers exhibiting with WSI at The Big 5 include ACO International (surface drainage systems), Airbath International (spas and acrylic baths), Barwood Products (grab rails for the disabled), The Bright Ideas Company (ceramic tile accessories), Broughton Controls (access control systems), BTS ( plumbing materials), Chamberlain International (anti-slip grips and silicones), Consort Architectural (architectural hardware and security systems).

Also on show will be Fernco International (flexible pipe couplings), Flowcrete (polyurethane flooring and car-parks), GDA Applied Energy (ventilation products), G&J Sales (shower cubicles and screens), Gap Sails and Structures (tensile fabric structures), GSP Ceilings (suspended ceilings and partitions), Halma Materials Technology (dehumidification equipment), Hart Doors (industrial doors), Hughes Pumps (water jetting equipment), JP Ceramics (ceramic water filters), Kingspan Access Flooring (raised access floors), Marley Plumbing (hot and cold plumbing systems), Monodraught (Sun pipe systems), Pegler (plumbing and heating), R&D Marketing (heated mirrors and undertile heating products), Richard Lees Steel Decking (steel decking), R S Stokvis & Sons (industrial doors and heat management products), Silavent (ventilation systems), Stag (expansion joint systems and sealants), Stylwood (fire-rated doors), Unilam (resin and machinery), Woods Air Movement (ventilation systems), Berry Systems (barriers) and Yale Security Products (locks and architectural hardware).

Helping a further 10 British manufacturers reach the Middle East market through The Big 5 show is Build-Ex.

Companies with product display modules include British Standards Institution, Hurst Plastics, Universal Fittings, Winther Browne, Leighs Paints, Rollsec, Liquid Plastics, Morse Controls, Shore Manufacturing and Stadium Ventilation.

Companies from 37 countries have so far confirmed their participation at the Big 5, which is to be the largest-ever in the annual series and one of only three yearly events to fill all seven DWTC halls.

The Big 5 will this year feature 17 national pavilions - two more than last year with Canada making its official debut. It is organised by dmg Index Exhibitions Limited.

  • A Sharjah-based manufacturer of water purification systems plans to open a 200,000 sq ft factory in the Jebel Ali Free Zone within three years, more than tripling its current production facilities. So Safe Products, which has operated out of Sharjah's industrial area for five years, says it will invest $9.5 million in the new Jafza facility, blueprints of which will be unveiled at the Big 5.

  • A Dammam-based company, which claims to have produced the world's first water filter with an in-built sound alarm, is to stage the international launch of the product at The Big 5. The ultraviolet sterilising filter, which sounds an alarm when it needs replacing, has been developed in-house by Water and Environmental Systems.
