The UAE Offsets Group (UOG) has signed a Dh 1.662 billion ($452.9 million) deal with a consortium of a unit of Technip and a local firm to build a water pipeline from Fujairah to Al Ain.

The deal also involves building a pumping station, water storage tanks and other facilities at a power and water desalination project in the UAE emirate of Fujairah.

Doosan Heavy Industries has won a $803 million contract to build the 656 MW power unit and 100 million gallon per day desal plant in Qidfa, north Fujairah.

The 185-km pipeline is designed to carry 180 million gallons of drinking water per day from the plant to Al Ain.

Technip's local partner is Abu Dhabi-based Al Jaber Energy Services (AJES). The duration of the project is 21 months.

"This is a fast-track project. We will start immediately. We expect to finish ahead of plan," said AJES general manager Sherif El Kurdi.
