TEN major sewage and construction projects worth more than BD50 million ($131.9 million) were completed by Bahrain’s Works Ministry last year.

They have led to more access to sewage systems, better water purification, enhanced rainwater drainage and a new Hawar Island port, among others.

In an annual report issued by the Information Affairs Authority, the ministry listed “the most important projects” completed last year in the sanitation sector, some of which started as early as 2006.

The most expensive sewage project was improving the efficiency of the dual biological treatment process at the Tubli Waste Water Treatment Plant at a cost of BD8.75 million ($23.20 million). The most expensive construction project was the building of the Survey and Land Registration Bureau in Seef district at a cost of BD13.6 million ($36.07 million).

The Tubli project aims to upgrade the secondary treatment unit at the sewage treatment plant, using the Hybacs technique, to improve the quality of water and the 100,000 cu m per day overflow to the plant.
