PHASE One of the $1-billion International Medical City (IMC) in Salalah, Oman, will start soon, with significant headway having been made on the groundwork, according to its promoter, the Saudi-based Apex Medical Group.
A request for proposals (RFP) is due to be floated soon for the construction of the main hospital. “We are prequalifying designers and contractors for the healthcare component of the project. For the detailed engineering design and construction of the hospital, we have decided to approach specialised firms,” said Naeema Aziz, chief operating officer.
The massive development will be built on an 866,000-sq-m site leased from the Ministry of Tourism. It will feature a healthcare resort, healthcare complex, and healthcare education complex, which will be developed over two phases. The centrepiece is a 530-bed multi-tertiary hospital catering to 21 different specialties.
