BAHRAIN’s Ministry of Transportation has signed two key agreements to spur the modernisation of Bahrain International Airport.

A BD6.9-million ($18.2 million) contract was signed with Hill International to provide project management consultancy services for the airport modernisation programme.

The ministry and Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) have developed a comprehensive project to elevate the Bahrain International Airport infrastructure and services. When completed, it is expected to increase the airport’s capacity to 13.5 million passengers a year.

“Hill International are on board to ensure the airport modernisation programme stays firmly on track,” said Transportation Minister and Economic Development Board acting chief executive Kamal Ahmed.

“We strive to manage Bahrain’s gateway as a leading airport while serving the future needs of the aviation industry,” said BAC’s CEO Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah, adding that the development plans “are essential for stimulating the growth of the aviation and logistics sectors”.

In another agreement, the ministry signed a BD13-million ($34.3 million) contract with leading engineering and design firm Aéroport de Paris Ingérierie (ADPi). As per the deal, ADPi will serve as design and engineering consultant for the airport modernisation programme.
