HINO Motors, one of the largest truck and bus manufacturers in the world, has opened a 5,400-sq-m parts depot at Logistics District of Dubai World Central (DWC) to quicken delivery of spare parts and reduce logistics costs considerably.

Aiming to cater to the GCC markets, the new parts depot at DWC will be Hino Motors’ third spare part depot after the US and Belgium. The new facility at DWC will enable Hino Motors to supply spare parts and other units directly from its manufacturing unit in Japan for delivery to the GCC market, creating a huge impact on customer satisfaction.

Mohsen Ahmad, vice-president, Logistics District, Dubai World Central, said: “The new warehouse for Hino Motors offers the strategic advantages of our location along with facilities such as multimodal transport, fast-cycle logistics environment, and proximity to Al Maktoum International Airport and Jebel Ali sea port through a dedicated logistics corridor which will significantly benefit the company.”

Len Hunt, president of Al Futtaim Automotive group, said: “The 5,400-sq-m state-of-the-art facility will provide Al Futtaim Motors same-day delivery of genuine spare parts across the UAE avoiding any disruptions of daily operations to our customers.”

Jon Williams, managing director of Al Futtaim Motors, commented: “The combination of shorter period delivery with a total storage capacity of more than 10,000 spare parts items drastically reduces operational costs while providing customers tailored service contracts or parts packages that fit their bespoke requirements.”

Meanwhile, work has commenced on an 8,000-sq-m warehousing and distribution facility in DWC. DB Schenker, the transportation and logistics arm of the German railway company Deutsche Bahn, will build the facility that will primarily be used for general cargo warehousing, distribution and value-added services.

The facility, which will be completed in May 2014, will be used to bundle, temporarily store and process onward carriage cargo shipments for industrial and trade customers.

Its state-of-the-art warehouse will be 25 per cent temperature-controlled and the rest of the environment will be ambient in nature.
