The new labour village ... to accommodate 14,000 residents.

DUBAI Industrial City, a dedicated light and medium manufacturing zone, has completed construction work on the extension to its first labour village.

The complex is among the first in the country to comply with the stringent Ministry of Labour regulations, according to a statement.
The labour village, which is fully leased out, features a total of 26 buildings that can accommodate up to 14,000 residents.
All the rooms at the labour village are air-conditioned. It has well-appointed community amenities such as supermarkets, shops, mosque, landscaped walkways and gardens, as well as exclusive parking areas for buses to transport workers. Dedicated playgrounds for football, volleyball, and cricket are also available at the premises and provided with round-the-clock security.
The village is one of the several labour villages planned at the city to meet demand from companies operating in the zone, as well as firms with operations in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Rashed Al Ansari, vice-president of Dubai Industrial City, said: “As the region’s leading industrial destination, we are proud to be one of the first to provide socially responsible and cost-efficient labour accommodation that is compliant with the new federal regulations as well as international health and safety standards.
“The provision of global health and safety standards are ensured through benchmarking the facilities against the criteria mandated by Maqayees, our integrated management system that ensures the implementation of world-class quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE) standards.”
