Al Ain Municipal Council has commissioned the design and redevelopment of a mosque, set to become the biggest modern mosque in Al Ain.

The mosque, which will have a capacity to hold 3,860 people, will be named the Sheikha Salama Mosque. It is expected to be completed in 2009 and will be located adjacent to the central suq.
Aldar has won the design and supervision deal for the project.
The mosque will combine a contemporary interpretation of traditional Arabic architecture and will reflect the historical and cultural uniqueness of Al Ain. With a simple rectangular layout and a total area of 35,873 sq m, the site includes 1,000 car parking spaces to ensure that future demand is taken into account. The layout will comprise square modules punctuated by amply spaced columns.
