Ducab, a leading manufacturer of high-quality power cables in the Middle East, has opened an Dh20 million ($5.5 million) PVC compounding plant at its Jebel Ali facility.
Ducab’s decision to have its own PVC compound plant is part of its on-going expansion and forms part of its vertical integration programme, said a senior official.
The plant will produce flexible PVC compounds for insulation and sheathing of electric cables. State-of-the-art equipment for the new plant, including automated weighing and dosing systems for each component of the various formulations, was purchased from Europe. The centralised control system, which includes a dedicated video graphic display system, facilitates user-friendly operation of the whole plant while maintaining accurate control of each component. The plant is integrated with a fully-equipped polymers laboratory to enable the development of customer-specific formulations.
Colin Paskins, managing director, said: “The setting up of this PVC compounding plant falls in line with Ducab’s overall strategy of vertical integration to secure its supply chain.
“With the new investment we will ensure timely availability of raw materials for the production and better control of our manufacturing processes as our business continues to expand. This development will also complement Ducab’s growth and expansion strategy as we look to consolidate our market position and expand our client portfolio.”
