

Hughes opens new office
Sharjah: Hughes, Europe’s largest manufacturer of emergency safety showers and eyebath/facewash equipment, has set up an office at the Sharjah International Airport Free Zone.
Shaik Sayeed has been appointed sales manager for the new Hughes Middle East office. The new sales office will initially provide its distributors with technical and commercial support, which will be extended in the future to include centralised warehousing and assembly facilities.
Depa to fit-out Burj Dubai
Dubai: Leading interior contracting company Depa Dubai has been awarded the subcontract for the Burj Dubai project, part of the 500-acre Downtown Burj Dubai development. According to the company, the Dh600 million ($163.3 million) contract will include the manufacture, supply, installation, construction and completion of the entire fit-out works for the 899 serviced and residential apartments, as well as their corridors, lift lobbies and the amenities levels.
‘The Burj Dubai apartments will have beautiful interiors that will include high quality standard of finishes, meticulously selected to reflect the uniqueness of this project,” said a Depa spokesman.
Depa has to deliver the works by the end of December 2008.
LCL wins Atlantis contract
Dubai: A joint venture between LCL Interiors, a subsidiary of Kuala Lumpur-listed LCL Corporation, and Dubai-based Mice Kraftwork has won a Dh93 million ($25.3 million) fit-out contract for the $1.5 billion The Atlantis resort coming up on The Palm Jumeirah in Dubai.
The firms have received a letter of intent for the design and fit-out of the East and West towers of The Atlantis.
WTCR work under way
Dubai: The World Trade Centre Residence (WTCR) project, a state-of-the-art luxury residence in downtown Dubai, has achieved another milestone with the completion of its seventh floor. When completed, the 40-storey WTCR will house 377 exclusive apartments.
Maritime City reclamation complete
Dubai: Dubai Maritime City, the world’s largest and the most comprehensive maritime complex in the world, has announced the completion of reclamation work on-site, marking one of the key stages in the construction of the iconic development.
Once complete, Dubai Maritime City will not only pave the way for a major impetus to the global maritime trade but also comprehensively redefine the international maritime community.
With the conclusion of the reclamation work, real construction has commenced on the site with marked progress in the design themes aimed at bringing them to reality.
The reclamation contract at the dredging site was completed in August and the total volume reclaimed was 31.2 million cu m.
Additionally, the conclusion of the reclamation works now ensures that the quay wall that will surround the full peninsula can be completed. With the quay wall in place, a final backfilling process will provide the finishing touches.
When completed, Dubai Maritime City will spread across 227 hectares of man-made peninsula between Port Rashid and Dubai Dry Docks.
Malaysian group wins $350m deal
Abu Dhabi: A consortium of four Malaysian firms has won a construction contract worth 1.32 billion ringgit ($360 million) in the UAE, the companies said.
Tronoh Consolidated Malaysia, IJM Corp, LFE Corp and Sunway Holdings will have equal interest in the consortium, which will design and build five towers and seven villas in Abu Dhabi. The duration for the project is 31 months.
Adnec work progresses
Abu Dhabi: Main contractor Al Habtoor and all involved subcontractors have won praise for the rapid pace of work at Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (Adnec) expansion site.
The first phase of the venue, which is on schedule for completion by December, is a key aspect of Adnec’s strategy to build a modern world-class exhibition and conference centre catering to the booming commercial activity in the UAE capital.
The first phase will add around 28,500 gross sq m to Adnec’s exhibition area at an approximate outlay of Dh500 million ($136.1 million).
Upon completion, Adnec’s new venue will include 57,000 sq m of gross exhibition floor space, a 21,000 sq m visitor concourse and 7,500 sq m of multi-purpose halls.
It will also feature dedicated conference facilities for 1,200 people, 30 high-specification meeting rooms and an eight-outlet food court.
