Work is currently under way on a major new museum being developed by the Saudi Ministry of Culture and art collective teamLab in Jeddah Historic District.
Located in the Red Sea coastal city, teamLab Borderless Jeddah is being built on the shores of Alarbaeen Lagoon offering panoramic views of Jeddah Historic District, a Unesco World Heritage Site.
The museum is part of Saudi Ministry of Culture’s mandate in the Jeddah Historic District to preserve the historical and cultural urban centre as a vibrant cultural hub.
teamLab Borderless is a world of artworks without boundaries.
Spanning 10,000 sq m of gross floor area, the museum is making steady progress towards completion. Once completed, teamLab Borderless Jeddah will feature over 50 experiential artworks created by teamLab using digital technology.
An international art collective, teamLab Borderless said the Jeddah facility will be its first-ever permanent teamLab Borderless museum to be launched in the Middle East.
“When teamLab Borderless first opened its doors in Tokyo in June 2018, the museum welcomed over 2.3 million annual visitors, and set the world record for the most visited museum by a single art group,” said a spokesman for the entity.
“As a collaborative initiative between the Saudi Ministry of Culture and teamLab, the all-new teamLab Borderless Jeddah will become a part of the further development of the kingdom’s thriving cultural ecosystem” he added.
