
DOHALAND has awarded a design-and-build contract worth QR182 million ($50 million) to Drake and Scull Water and Power (DSWP), a subsidiary of Drake & Scull International (DSI), for two district cooling plants on its flagship Musheireb project in the capital of Qatar.
The contract includes detailed design and construction of district cooling plants comprising chiller plants, cooling towers, and includes all equipment and services. The total capacity of the two proposed district cooling plants is 29,250 TR (tonnage of refrigeration).
The contract also covers the design and construction of a chilled water reticulation network including valves and valve chamber details, design and construction of complete mechanical electrical and plumbing (MEP) building services for the plants, testing and commissioning of the plants as well as operation, and maintenance of the district cooling plants for a minimum period of five years.
Work on the multi-billion-dollar Musheireb community development is proceeding on schedule with raft concrete pouring under way. Phase 1A is due for completion in 2012 with the overall project expected to be ready by 2016.
