THE Roads & Transport Authority in coordination with Meydan City Corp last month opened bridges and roads leading to Meydan racecourse at Nad El Sheba in Dubai. The project comprises four bridges extending a total length of 2,025 m, including two 710 m-long bridges for entering and exiting Meydan and a private bridge offering VIPs direct access to the grandstand.
RTA chairman and executive director Mattar Al Tayer said: “Meydan Roads and Bridges Project, which has a price tag of Dh1 billion ($272 million), is one of the key projects undertaken by the RTA and its importance is underlined by the massive nature of the Meydan project which spans an area of 67 million sq ft and harbours the world’s biggest horseracing track, in addition to a five-star hotel, state-of-the-art stables, Meydan gallery, canals, restaurants, Imax cinema hall for 585 persons, and a parking space for 10,000 vehicles.”
Work on the project involved diverting the route of Meydan Road, which surrounds Meydan City, and providing corridors to access Meydan City. The new Meydan Road comprises four lanes in each direction starting from the existing interchange with Dubai-Al Ain Road and extending 4.5 km up to the Falcon Club.
