Al Ma’awdah’s warehouse ... healthy stock levels.

Having recently completed the supply of a range of building materials that include steel reinforcement bars and timber for the prestigious Bahrain City Centre, the diversified Bahrain-based Al Ma’awdah Group is now providing doors and a range of interior finishing products for the project.

The group encompasses Al Ma’awdah Establishment for Construction Materials, Al Ma’awdah Construction, Al Ma’awdah Furniture Factory and Al Ma’awdah Reinforcement Company.
“We have supplied close to 75 per cent of the steel reinforcement that was required by the contractor Cebarco WCT for the City Centre project. The quantity that we were required to supply to Cebarco WCT under the initial contract was the single largest ever in the company’s two-decade-long history,” says Alex Oommen, commercial manager of Al Ma’awdah Establishment for Construction Materials.
“The supply order is one of our biggest to date and our ability to supply Cebarco WCT huge volumes within the deadlines has been commended,” he adds.
Oommen says that one of the reasons that Al Ma’awdah has been able to conclude the supply without any delay – and faster than the other suppliers in Bahrain – has been due to the fact that the company has always maintained healthy stocks of reinforced steel bars and timber at its warehouses in Bahrain.
“Our partnership with Cebarco WCT began with the Bahrain International Circuit’s (BIC) Formula One racetrack at Sakhir and it has remained strong ever since,” he says.
Apart from steel, the company has also supplied large volumes of Austrian White Wood for shuttering, marine plywood and lightweight blocks marketed as Siporex, says Oommen.
Established more than two decades ago, Al Ma’awdah Group boosted its portfolio in late 2006, by setting up a new steel rebar cut-and-bend division, which has the capacity to handle 1,500 to 2,000 tonnes per month of rebar.
Situated at Salmabad in Bahrain, the cut-and-bend factory is fully equipped with the latest computerised machinery to ensure timely delivery of products made to international quality standards and offered at an optimum price, says Oommen.
This division stocks and supplies steel reinforcement bars and cut-and-bend steel from Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UK.
Apart from the Bahrain City Centre, the company has supplied a range of products to most of the major contractors in Bahrain and has been involved with many of the kingdom’s prestigious projects, says Oommen. “Since last year, there has been significant growth in the company’s business. We have clinched several orders and we are hopeful that our sales volumes this year will be four times those of last year, which itself was a record year for the company.”
“As a group, Al Ma’awdah has come to be known as a reputable supplier of high-quality products, ranging from construction and building materials to furniture including an exclusive collection of steel and woodwork, which is intricately designed and made to customer specifications. We have the capacity to take on a variety of challenging projects,” he adds.
The construction materials division stocks and supplies a wide range of building materials and has a highly resourceful in-house team, which has extensive experience in selecting building materials and in customer relationship.
The group claims to be the only authorised marketer and distributor in Bahrain of Siporex thermal insulation building systems produced by LCC Siporex of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The range includes lightweight insulated blocks, cladding tiles, vertical and horizontal panels, roof/floor slabs, box-type and wall panel-type lintels and is grouped broadly under four product categories – Siporex blocks, Siporex reinforced units for walls, roofs and lintels, Siporex cladding tiles and Siporex hordi blocks.
“All these products, manufactured using autoclave-aerated concrete have a very low thermal conductivity, are faster and easier to erect, lighter in weight and can help reduce construction costs. Al Ma’awdah can also undertake mega turnkey civil projects using the Siporex system and has a specialised erection crew – approved by the Bahrain Ministry of Works – for the system,” says Oommen.
The company also offers a complete range of building finishing materials from the Riyadh-based Saudi Serpo as well as Kaindl Floorings from Austria.
The Saudi Serpo product profile includes textured coatings such as emulsion paints, primer, oil-based paints, multi-purpose products, skim coatings, thin and thick plasters, tile adhesives, tile joint grouts, self-levelling compounds, waterproofing agents, cracker-fillers, bonding agents and metal primers, among others.
“One of the latest offerings from Kaindl Floorings is the Kaindl One collection of HDF (high-density fibreboard) laminate floorings, which are a popular choice for exclusive interiors due to their durability and comfort,” he explains. “Hard-wearing, impact and shock resistant, this flooring system is also resistant to cigarette burns and other stains, environmentally-friendly and is an easy-to-clean and glue-less installation product.”
Al Ma’awdah Construction has carried out a wide range of industrial, housing and commercial projects, high-rise buildings, private villas and hotels. This division has its own in-house resources of skilled and unskilled manpower comprising around 250 employees, as well as machinery and equipment.
Al Ma’awdah Furniture Factory manufactures a wide range of wooden doors, door frames, architraves, staircase handrails, kitchen units, wardrobes, cabinets and various types of wooden furniture and decorative items. Located in the Arad area, the factory is more than 80 per cent automated which helps it to manufacture high-quality products in bulk quantities.
