Innovative solutions ... the DD 200 diamond system.

Hilti products, systems and services, which have gained worldwide recognition for providing construction professionals with innovative solutions and outstanding added value, have generally been sought after for key projects in the Gulf.

Among such projects is the distinctive Bahrain City Centre, where Hilti systems have been used at every phase of development, says Lubin Ozoux, general manager for Hilti in Bahrain.
Among the many innovative solutions used in the project, Hilti’s MQ channel system is a good case in point.
“A very sturdy substructure capable of taking up high loads was required,” says Robert Sonntag, the key project manager from Hilti Bahrain. “The Hilti MQ channel system was predestined for jobs of this kind, and, thanks to its modular concept, allows design changes to be made – even during installation. Moreover, it’s all very simple: no welding, ready to assemble and very flexible.”
Despite its strength, according to Sonntag, the MQ system is still relatively light in weight, so the installer doesn’t need to use lifting gear. A comprehensive range of components like brackets, clamps, connectors, and supports, designed for countless structural variations and load ranges, were also used in the project.
Another example of an innovative solution is CP 606, an acrylic-latex-based firestop sealant.
“At a time when construction is proceeding at a frenzied pace in the Gulf, the need to seal off facades, for example, from fire leaks was paramount. CP 606 – which offers movement capabilities and excellent acoustic rating in fire-rated joints and seals through-penetration applications – was used on the top-of-wall joints. The DX 460, a high-quality versatile fastening system, was utilised for wall tie applications,” Sonntag points out.
Amongst the ingenious solutions that Hilti provided was the DD 200 diamond system that allowed extremely fast and efficient coring of the holes needed for creating precise pipe openings.
All the new tools used on the project came complete with Hilti’s unique ‘Lifetime Service’ including most of the electro-pneumatic power tools such as combi-hammers and breakers. “As is Hilti’s practice worldwide, we provide a comprehensive, top-class service for the entire life of the product, covering repair or replacement of defective parts completely free of charge up to the first year from date of purchase,” says Ozoux. “After that, Hilti continues to prove the quality of its products by setting a repair cost limit for the entire life of the product.”
Backed by the Shaheen Group, the Hilti Bahrain team consists of specialist firestop engineers to meet the ever-increasing demand of building safety requirements, diamond cutting specialists, plus civil engineers to assist with general anchoring problems.
Commenting on the group’s capabilities, Ozoux says: “Hilti has been providing leading-edge technology to the global construction industry since its humble beginnings in 1941. Our experience with the environmental and physical demands that are unique to the Gulf region means that we are able to offer precise advice and guidance when using any of the products, systems, and solutions that our company has to offer.”
Headquartered in Schaan, Principality of Liechtenstein, Hilti has some 20,000 employees in more than 120 countries around the world.
