The external ovoid water feature ... situated between the two high-rise hotels on site.

Almoayyed Landscapes Division, which has been involved with some of the prestigious projects in Bahrain, has added another feather to its cap by securing the landscaping and water features deals at the Bahrain City Centre project.

Both the contracts were scheduled for completion last month, ahead of the opening of the prestigious development.
The water features contract will involve the setting up of a fully-automated fountain, located both inside and outside the complex, according to general manager Ajit Raina.
The external ovoid water feature is situated between the two high-rise hotels on site. The fountain comprises a central column of water 300 mm in diameter. The water feature has a height-adjustable central jet controlled by an automatic wind sensor which will shut it down when subjected to high winds. The jet is capable of reaching heights of up to 8 m.
At the periphery of the fountain are eight height-adjustable aerated jets which can reach heights of up to 6 m. While the outer jets are fitted with 500 watt quartz halogen light fixtures, the central jet has four 500 watt light fixtures.
Located with the plant room is the filtration equipment that recirculates the water of the fountains as well as the switchboard, which uses variable speed controls to achieve further height variations to the fountains.
Both the water features have been designed by an Australian firm in co-ordination with Almoayyed Landscapes Divisions.
The requirements set for the internal water feature were slightly different as it needed to blend with the interiors of the mall. Also, the fountain was to be designed in such a way that water is not discernible on the surface. The internal feature is hence designed as a multi-level quadrant with five large bubbler jets, each illuminated with four submersible LED light fixtures.
The water flows into a trench by gravity piping to a balance (reservoir) sited a floor below in the plant room. The plant room has a filter pump, main pump, dosing gear and control switchboard. The bubbler jets operate up to a height of 300 mm and can be varied by gate valves in the plant room. The pumps and the lights of both the water features are programmable to be switched on and off at particular times. “Since this is a fast-track project, some of the equipment for the water features had to be airlifted from Australia,” says Raina.
The company also won a contract for the external landscaping of the Bahrain City Centre, involving an area of 6,500 sq m on all four sides of the development. “We are procuring Washingtonian Palms from Saudi Arabia for the landscaping,” says Raina. “These ornamental date palms will be interspersed amongst a thick growth of shrubbery, which will add aesthetic value to the landscape.”
The company started mobilising for the landscaping works three months ago. Preliminary works on the landscaping such as the automated irrigation systems are now being put in place and so are the fittings for the water features.
Commenting on the project, he says: “We expect the City Centre to be a landmark project in Bahrain, not just for its scope and scale, but what it stands to offer to the end-user. We are very happy to have had a role to play with a project such as this.”
