Technal Middle East has been nominated to be the key supplier of the aluminium architectural systems for the luxury villas of the $4 billion Durrat Al Bahrain Resort in the south of Bahrain.
“The developers of the project have conducted thorough analyses and studies to compare various local and international systems to determine their comparative advantages and performances – before selecting our Technal systems,” says Hesham Kameshki, marketing and sales manager. “Our offers were both technically and commercially competitive for such a volume-based project, and having a well-established logistics set-up and a central distribution warehouse was an added advantage that geared our capacities to meet the project’s required delivery schedules. Coupled with this are the performance and standards offered by our selected products.”
Under the contract package, Technal Middle East will be supplying the aluminium doors and windows products for a total of 648 villas on the Atoll islands, which are under construction on the resort.
“The key challenge of this contract was in producing extraordinarily large-sized sliding doors, which are of 2.8 m high. For such sliding doors, a special engineering solution had to be developed to meet the structural and the functional aspects of this project,” he points out. “Given that the glazed aluminium units represent a considerable surface area of the external villas envelope, an essential criterion was the quality of the aluminium architectural systems.”
Three local aluminium and glazing installers have been awarded the subcontract works for the fabrication and installation – GP Zachariades, Aluminium Services and Mannai Aluminium – to execute the works using Technal systems, which are scheduled for delivery over the course of this year.
Having secured this sizeable order, Technal is hopeful of winning further packages in this landmark project.
Technal Middle East as the supplier for Technal quality systems is currently engaged in a number of other projects in Bahrain including the Bahrain City Centre and the Twin Towers being built in Seef District. It was also involved in the recently-completed extensions to the Seef Mall and Al A’ali Mall, where it offered an innovative special glass wall cladding solution.
The company, which has been active in the region for the past three decades, reinforced its presence in the GCC when it was set up as a subsidiary in Bahrain for its parent companies in 2000. Since then, it has diversified and made further significant inroads into all the GCC markets.
Elsewhere in the GCC, it has delivered its products to some recent landmark projects as Al Asfoor Tower in Kuwait. The project has involved the supply of Technal’s hi-tech structural glazing – Mecano SSG – for the external façade of the 32-storey tower.
Another major ongoing project in the Kuwaiti market is the massive Messilah Beach Hotel, for which Technal is supplying its sophisticated thermal-insulated window systems – Unicity. It is also involved in a building project for Kuwait Municipality.
“Unicity is a unique system in terms of its conceptual design and aesthetics, as well as its high thermal insulation and acoustics performance. Such a product is very rare in the international markets,” Kameshki points out.
Another innovative solution was provided for Qatar’s La Cigale hotel project, which was clad with a modernistic façade system.
“The system comprises elegant, horizontal oval fins – the Technal MX Geode horizontal line façade as well as Technal Saphir series FXi, PXi and GXi thermal-insulated windows and doors systems,” he says.
Other current projects in Qatar – where it has tripled its market share over the past year – include Al Ferdous Residential Complex, Al Manaa Twin Towers and Ali Bin Ali office headquarters building.
On the Al Manaa project, Technal’s MX classic façade and FB pivoting and top-hung windows are being installed, while for the Al Ferdous Residential complex, Technal has supplied its hi-tech Mecano SSG façade.
Technal Middle East is now gearing up to supply its Technal system for the landmark Al Akaria Plaza Commercial Centre in Riyadh. Another ongoing project in the Saudi capital city is the National Commercial Bank headquarters.
Other projects it was recently involved with in Dubai – where it has set further records – include the Golf Tower, Jumeirah Lake Tower, Old Town at Burj Dubai District, The Gate at Dubai International Financial Centre and Dubai Airport extension.
Over recent years, the company has carried out large numbers of high-profile projects in the region including the Bahrain International Circuit, the striking Bahrain International Airport new control tower, a new hotel building next to the Novotel Al Dana hotel, Al Zamil Tower, Al Rossais Tower, Elite Grande, HSBC’s new headquarters, Gulf Hotel Serviced Apartments, Sheraton Hotel renovation and the Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche showrooms, all in Bahrain,
Elsewhere in the Gulf, it has supplied its systems for the Universal Tower and Civil Service headquarters, both in Kuwait; a commercial and residential complex at Khalidia, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bel Ghailam Tower all in Abu Dhabi, the Jumeirah Beach Residence Towers, The Palm Jumeirah luxury villas, all in Dubai; the Office Park on the Saudi-Kuwaiti border in Al Khafji, Ministry of Interior building in Jeddah, Al Rajhi Bank and the Ministry of Public Services both in Riyadh, Al Sobaie Office and Commercial Towers, Al Majdouie headquarters Twin Towers and Sheraton Hotel renovation all in Dammam; and the Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz City for Humanitarian Services at the outskirt of Riyadh, which has become an important reference project for Technal in the Saudi Kingdom.
