Construction work is under way on the SR52 million ($13.86 million) Riyadh Cement Company (RCC) housing compound, which sits atop a quiet rocky hill located 90 km from Riyadh.
The project, which covers a 250,000 sq m area at Hafira Neshah in Mozahmia, comprises low-rise (one and two storey) structures including villas, dormitories, recreation and maintenance centres, a kindergarten building, along with a mosque, playgrounds and landscaped gardens.
Work on the project started in December last year and is due for completion in August next year.
Designed specifically in a modern Mediterranean-style with an Andalusian spirit, the project will house RCC’s employees and their families. The site will have family zone on one side and a bachelors’ zone on the other, with key facilities in the centre to serve both areas.
The compound will also include all the basic requirements and amenities for its residents such as playgrounds, a swimming pool, gymnasium, restaurant, coffee shop, supermarket and laundry, among others.
The project has been designed so as to accommodate the housing complex on higher ground with the service facilities positioned 30 m below. All buildings will comprise cast in-situ concrete, except for the maintenance facilities, which will be constructed in steel.
The consultant on the project is Nassir Al Mulhim Consultant Engineers (NMCE), while the contractor is Hamad Al Saghyir Company.
“NMCE conducted a special electromechanical study, in order to provide the project with the proper engineering maintenance systems that guarantee security and sustainability of the compound,” says a spokesman for NMCE. “The buildings have been made secure with a fire alarm and fire-fighting system and the sewer system has a recycling system that can use the recycled water in irrigation after chemical treatment.”
