Germany-based Gail Architektur Keramik – a leading supplier of swimming pool ceramics for Olympic games – has been awarded the contract for the supply of ceramic tiles for two sports pools that will host aquatic sporting events during the 15th Asian Games 2006 to be held in Doha, Qatar from December 1 to 15.

Gail, headquartered in Giessen, is supplying the materials for a 50 m swimming pool and a diving pool in the Al-Sadd Sports Club in Doha, where the Asian competition will take place for water polo, water handball and synchronised swimming and diving.
High-quality split tiles and special-formed ceramics will make up the sports pool, measuring 50 m by 25 m by 2.20 m where the fastest water polo players from the Middle and Far East will compete. The same premium quality of swimming pool ceramics will also be used in the diving pool measuring 20 m by 20 m by 5.5 m, to enable the best conditions for synchronised swimming and diving.
Early last month, the first containers containing light blue glossy split tiles for the pool walls and floors left the Gail factory for Qatar. The formed pieces and channels for the pool edge will follow in the next batch of containers, says a spokesman for the company.
The last batch of approximately five containers will include matt glazed blue split tiles, specially produced on request of the Al-Sadd Sports Club building owner for this project, he added.
