CCC lands major projects in Oman

The Government of Oman has awarded Consolidated Contractors Company two major infrastructure projects with a combined value of RO144.5 million ($375.34 million).

The contracts relate to the construction of two container berths and a breakwater at Salalah Port, valued at RO100.6 million, and the dualisation of Sohar-Buraimi road, valued at RO43.9 million.
A joint venture between CCC and Hani Archirodon has been awarded the contract for Salalah Port expansion while the Sohar-Buraimi dualisation project will be exclusively handled by CCC, Zahi Zaba, project engineer (estimation), CCC, said.
The Salalah Port project involves two segments for the construction of container berths 4 and 5 and associated works; and the construction of breakwater, dredging and reclamation at the port. Major works include the construction of a 900-m-long new quay structure for the container terminal comprising the fourth and fifth berths, which will be in continuation of the port’s existing four berths.
An additional 345-m-wide container yard will be built on berth No. 4 and 5, along with supporting structure and systems for container and yard equipment, along with roads, pavements, electro-mechanical and communications, utility buildings and services, including service stations and workshops. Works on the breakwater include dredging of the harbour basin and turning circle to a depth of 18-m. The approach and entrance channel will be dredged to 18.5 m level. Material arising from the dredging operations will be utilised for the reclamation of certain port areas.
The new 2.5 km breakwater will comprise rock core, rock armour, concrete armour and concrete crest wall. A portion of the existing breakwater will be dismantled to build a bund between the new and existing breakwaters and the enclosed area will be reclaimed with the dredged material. The main challenge involving the Salalah Port expansion project is the tight schedule, which is scheduled for completion in two years.
