$1.25bn expansion for Madinah

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has allocated $1.25 billion for the expansion work at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.

Abdullah ordered that the expansion work started at the holy place be completed at a cost of SR4.7 billion.
The work includes the construction of courtyards, roads, car parks and tunnels.
Under the late King Fahd, who became monarch in 1982, Saudi Arabia spent more than SR00 billion ($27 billion) on expanding and upgrading Islam’s holiest sites in Makkah and Madinah to accommodate millions of pilgrims.
