Construction work on the Middle East’s first indoor ski resort at the Mall of the Emirates, has continued to speed ahead and the project looks well on track to be ready to produce snow by the scheduled date of June 2005.

With over one third of the slope already built, initial construction of the steelwork for the huge roof and installation of the chairlift already started, the snow dome is rapidly becoming one of Sheikh Zayed Road’s most recognisable landmarks.
The project, which will feature over 6,000 tonnes of snow at any given time when completed, will take its place in the history books as the third largest indoor snow dome in the world, boasting such features as a 400 m ski run with a 62 m vertical drop, a permanent quarter pipe for stunts and snowboarding, a range of multi-directional slopes with a number of slope gradients and the world’s largest indoor snow play area.
“Although there will be many reasons to visit Mall of the Emirates, the snow dome will be the key attraction, being the first of its kind in the region,’’ says Peter Walichnowski, chief executive officer, Majid Al Futtaim Investments, ‘‘We have a team of 550 on site at any given time.’’
