Gardens Shopping Mall, which is in its final phase of development, will be launched next February.

The mall, being developed by Nakheel on Shaikh Zayed Road, is conceived as the “largest” themed facility of its kind in the world, and will have 1.6 million sq ft of retail space. Nakheel has joined hands with Marketing Themed Enviroments (MTE) Studios to create the themed environment.
The mall will eventually have a second phase expansion, which could add another one million sq ft of built-up area, said Andrew Chambers, general manager.
It will combine retail, entertainment, restaurant and family activities offering as many as 300 stores, a food court, a movie complex with 21 screens, an Imax theatre and parking for 4,000 cars, all in a 1.6 million-sq-ft facility.
The single-storey mall was designed around the concept of the various countries visited by the famous Arabian traveler, Ibn Battuta.  The mall will house five country-themed shopping areas represented by a variety of architectural styles to imitate Battuta’s travels through Morocco, Egypt, Persia, India and China. The main geographical themes of these six regions will be reflected in the architecture and the general ambience of the mall’s six separate courts.
The architecture is not only impressive, but awe-inspiring as well; design and its sheer size will have a dramatic effect on its visitors. “We had no intention of creating a mall with just size in mind. Being the largest themed mall in the world was a complete accident,” adds Chambers.
The Dubai office of Turner Construction International is the construction of the development.
