BMT Fluid Mechanics – a subsidiary of the UK-based British Maritime Technology (BMT) – now offers short seminars to discuss recent changes to design wind speeds for tall buildings in Dubai and their implementation within BS6399 standards.
“Following wind climate analysis conducted by BMT Fluid Mechanics, in collaboration with the Dubai Municipality, it is now possible to lodge applications with Building Permits and Regulation Section for a reduction in basic three-second gust design windspeed from 45 m/s to 38 m/s (10 m height over open desert),” says Dr Keith Bailey, head of civil structures at BMT Fluid Mechanics.
He continues: “Additionally, consultants should note that CP3 Chapter V is now an obsolete document and design for structural and cladding systems should be conducted according to BS6399 Part 2 (1997).
