Winds of change blow at Weinig

Weinig's new generation machine ... the Powermat 2020.

Weinig’s new chairman Rainer Hundsd?rfer has pledged to steer the group to further successes and promised to launch several new innovations in many fields, over the course of the year.

Hundsdorfer  succeeded Wolfgang Wilmsen as executive chairman of Weinig, marking the first of many significant changes within the leading European manufacturer of woodworking machinery.
Prior to joining Weinig, 45-year-old Hundsd?rfer was the group executive director for distribution and marketing at the Trumpf in Ditzingen, a worldwide leading tool machine and laser manufacturer.
“Hundsd?rfer offers considerable international experience in the distribution of technically superior capital goods. The new executive chairman wants Weinig to grow in a profitable and secure way, to expand the market share, as well as develop new markets,” says a Weinig spokesman.
Weinig recently introduced four new-generation machines in the planing and moulding field: the Unimat 300, Unimat 500, Powermat 1000 and Powermat 2020.
These innovative machines will be on show at Weinig’s stand at the Milan Exhibition this month (May).
Elaborating on the products, the spokesman says: “The Unimat 300 is designed to replace the small, compact Quattromat model, which was a popular entry-level moulder. The new Unimat 300 is designed for small manufacturers who are upgrading their moulding capability from individual standard machines to their first four-sided planing/moulding machine.
“It offers many more of the superior components fitted to Weinig’s larger models, and is still priced attractively low for the benefit of the customers.
“One of the differences with the Quattromat is that it is available with four or five spindles, and features many improvements. It is a versatile, compact moulder, ideal for joinery, furniture and shopfitting – providing a professional, smooth finish that typifies Weinig machines.
“The Unimat 500 is Weinig’s new generation moulder which consolidates the earlier middle range Profimat and Unimat models. This moulder, along with others in the range, completes a comprehensive package for customers, covering every known moulding requirement.
“The Powermat 1000 and 2020 (with jointing) are significant upgrades, utilising the futuristic PowerLock HSK tooling, that sets Weinig apart from other moulder manufacturers. The Powermat 1000 is an upgrade of the Unimat 1000 Star, and the Powermat 2020 upgrades the Unimat 2000 Speed.”
“HSK tooling is the future,” says Hundsd?rfer.
 “This tooling can be changed in no time, unaided, at the press of a button. It is small, lightweight and easily aligned with the tool holder. Problems of balance and vibration are completely eliminated by this rigid fitting tooling system.”
In addition, it is said to offer several advantages:

  • 12,000-rpm spindle operation, allowing double the feed speed of conventional machines;
  • Immaculate surface finish;
  • Minimal setting times; and
  • Absolute flexibility in production.

Suction hoods and pressure rollers adjust to the respective tool diameter, resulting in a short double plane effect.
Also on show at the exhibition are various other Weinig Group machines for solid wood processing – from Dimter, Grecon and Raimann.
Dimter will be exhibiting the OptiCut 200 Elite and OptiCut S 50 – the most popular cross-cut saws for the small and medium-size manufacturers. Dimter has dominated the market with its wide range of saws and unequalled expertise in this field, making it the natural choice in the woodworking industry worldwide, says the spokesman.
“Finger jointing is a growing business today, and with the right equipment, can be a very profitable production process,” he says. “The Grecon ProfiJoint on show will prove the point.”
Raimann, a specialist in CNC multi-gang ripsaws, will be exhibiting the FlexiRip 3200 and ProfiRip KM 310. “The Quickfix feature on the KM 310 for fast resetting will certainly impress the visitor as it offers a versatility not previously available.”
“The Waco Universal Band Resaw BKS is designed for larger companies with high throughput. It feeds at 5 to 40 m/min. and offers high dimensional accuracy, a thin kerf and fast manual setting up,” he concludes.
