Saudi Vitrified Clay Pipe Company (SVCP) made its debut in the Qatar market more than 12 years ago with the delivery of pipes to a sewerage project.

''We won our first order in Qatar in 1988 to supply local firm Tawfeeq Contracting in Doha for a project called C188, despite tough competition from other foreign suppliers,'' says Mahmoud Abu Jebara, sales manager of the Riyadh-based firm.

Since then, SVCP has been steadily gaining the trust of all contractors in Qatar dealing in sewage infrastructure projects, he says. To date, the company has supplied more than 110 different projects in Qatar with various contractors. Pipes supplied have been in the range from DN 100 to DN 1200.

SVCP is currently supplying to almost all sewage projects in Qatar, Abu Jebara adds.

''Key to this success is the high quality of SVCP products, the trust and confidence the firm has gained from all contractors through 12 years of hard work and partnership, good after-sales service and close follow up with sites requirements, immediate supply of any unforeseen items which could otherwise cause delay of work, reasonable prices, among other reasons,'' says Abu Jebara.

Some of the main projects that SVCP has been or continues to be involved include:

  • West Bay Lagoon Hotel - for contractor Consolidated Contractors International Company;

  • RasGas housing project (Package 5 infrastructure) - Tayseer Contracting Company;

  • Rayyan area sewerage, CP 363 - Qatar Building Company;

  • Abu Hamour drainage area (PH 1 - CP391) - Qatar Building Company;

  • Muaither Commercial Street (Sewerage area - CP372 PH II) - Qatar Building Company;

  • Omar Bin Al Khattab Street (ERM 1013 C9 - road maintenance) - Bin Omran Trading & Contracting;

  • Rayyan North area sewerage (CP 378) - Marbu Contracting Establishment;

  • North Azizia area sewerage (CP 386/1)- Marbu Contracting Establishment;

  • Exhibition Centre sewerage ( CP 699) - Marbu Contracting Establishment;

  • West Bay sewerage area (C622 - Ph1) - Qatar Building Company;

  • Al Murrah West Area Sewerage (Phase 2, C P 457/1) - Lotus Trading & Contracting Company;

  • Al Bustan Road (ERC 0367/C1) - Khalid Bin Ahmad Alsuwaidi;

  • NGL 4 project (Mesaieed and Dukhan) - Gulf Housing Construction; and

  • A number of area sewerage projects.

    SVCP was set up in Saudi Arabia in 1977 to meet the infrastructure requirements for all the GCC countries and it therefore follows that it would play a part in projects in Qatar, Abu Jebara says. ''SVCP aims to meet the entire demand for vitrified clay pipes in GCC and Arab countries as well as near and Far East countries. Over the past few years, SVCP has also made inroads into the Europe continent supplying to many projects in western Europe.''

    At its factory in Riyadh, SVCP produces vitrified clay pipes in the range from 100 to 1,200 mm with an annual capacity of 60,000 tonnes.

    The facility maintains a huge stock all the time allowing the firm to supply any quantity to all neighbour countries within a short period and upon request.
