Dubai-based GLS (Gargash Lighting Solutions) is one of the major suppliers of lighting products to this project under an order valued at Dh1.5 million ($400,000).

GLS is one of the few companies operating in the UAE that have thoroughbred lighting professionals who can handle any lighting projects with ease.

Though as a company it is relatively a new entrant, the house of Gargash is well established and respected in the UAE. Within a year of launching operations, GLS has had the privilege of associating itself with a number of prestigious projects in Dubai and Abu Dhabi such as Dubai International Airport, Abu Dhabi Trade Centre, Al Ghurair expansion project, Hotel Park Plaza International and the Oasis Centre, to name a few.

R Krishnan, who heads GLS, attributes the company's success to the range of excellent products that has found easy acceptance, as well as the goodwill, hard work and sound technical knowledge in the field of lighting of its staff. He feels that UAE offers a lot of scope to delve into the specialised fields of lighting and GLS will soon be making a mark in this area too.

Krishnan comments: "Mazaya Centre was an excellent opportunity for GLS to get established, though some of the existing big names expressed apprehension about GLS' capabilities. However, the project managers had a lot of faith in the ability of GLS and the rest is history.

''Currently, GLS is working on many major projects in the UAE and it is only a matter of time that GLS becomes one of the leading players in the lighting projects market - if it is not already one.''

GLS says it represents some interesting companies like Intralux (Australia); ATP & Ferram (Spain); Getron and Schmidt Leuchten (Germany); IBL - CLE (UK); SPI Indirect Lighting Systems from the US; and Multiline (Belgium).

''GLS takes this opportunity to wish the owners of Mazaya Centre a grand success,'' Krishnan concludes.
