Bahrain
Qatar Bahrain Causeway Development
Owner: Qatar Government – Bahrain Government
Budget: $3 billion

Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of a 40 km double-lane causeway between Qatar and Bahrain. The development will include bridge structures covering 20 km and another 20 km of embankments. It will start at Askar Village in Bahrain and end at Ras Ashiraj in Qatar.
Update: Sources indicate that, a consortium of Vinci Group and Qatari Diar has signed a preliminary agreement to build a 40-km bridge with the Qatar-Bahrain Causeway Foundation.

Durrat Al Bahrain – Commercial Crescent
Owner: Durrat Khaleej Al Bahrain Company
Budget: $1 billion
Scope of work: The project calls for design and construction of six themed zones, each having commercial residential towers and 800 villas. The development will have 6,000 apartments and offices. It also includes the 300-m Durrat Central Tower, shopping mall, schools, mosque, health care centres, spas and other related facilities. The development is located in the centre of Durrat Al Bahrain.
Update: Sources indicate that,Durrat Khaleej Al Bahrain Company has created a new company Durrat Resort Management to operate and manage the on-going property and facilities management needed for Durrat Al Bahrain.

Bahrain Equestrian Complex – National Racecourse – Sakhir
Owner: Bahrain Ministry of Finance & National Economy
Budget: $700 million
Scope of work: The work calls to create a world-class equestrian and equine facility, providing a variety and diversity of equestrian disciplines. The horse racecourse at Sakhir will be privatized under a scheme to turn 3.7 million sq m of land into an international equestrian complex. The project aims at redeveloping existing facilities to international best practice standards, enable the operation of night racing under floodlights and hosting of international equestrian. A one-million gallon water treatment plant, to produce water to maintain the grassed track and landscaped areas, is a part of the project. Other facilities improve the grandstand, public seating and viewing area, improvement to facilities for VIPs and the staging of corporate events and provision of corporate hospitality.
Update: Sources indicate that main contract has still to be awarded.

Bahrain Bay Development – Phase 3 – Raffles City
Owner: CapitaLand Limited
Budget: $630 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a 43,000 sq m residential and commercial complex at Bahrain Bay Development in Manama. The complex will comprise of 288,000 sq m of built-up area for residential (60 per cent), retail and leisure (30 per cent), 400 high-rise luxurious apartments and serviced residences. The total development area forms 20 per cent of the total development area of Bahrain Bay Development. The total built-up area of the Bahrain Bay Development is 1.1 million sq m.
Update: Sources indicate that design work has been completed and ground is expected to be breaking ground shortly.

Al Areen Desert Spa & Resort – Porto Reef
Owner: Abu Dhabi Investment House (ADIH)
Budget: $335 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of four residential and commercial clusters at the southern end of the Al Areen Desert Spa and Resort covering an area of 235,295 sq m.
Update: Sources indicate that Concrete Processing SPC – Dutch Foundation JV has been awarded the enabling and piling works for Porta Reef project, as well as the construction of the Client Relationship Centre (CRC). The contract duration is two months.

Salmabad Town
Owner: Bahrain Ministry of Works and Housing
Budget: $260 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a new town situated to the south of Salmabad. It will include 80 buildings comprising of 1,840 apartments, 300 government houses, two schools, mosques and commercial outlets.
Update: According to the sources close to the project, the project was among several pending government projects that received approval in November. The client is now to proceed with the plan to build this development.

Durrat Al Bahrain – Marina Resort
Owner: Durrat Khaleej Al Bahrain Company
Budget: $180 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a state-of-art resort which will include 142 villas, buildings that will vary between three and 30 floors, 200 residential units and the focal point of the development is the marina, which includes 400-boats marina, sailor, water sports, restaurants and cafes. Marina resort will be located to the east of golf club with covering area of 600,000 sq m.
Update: Sources indicate that Atkins has completed the master plan for the marina, whichhas been approved by the developers.

North Bahrain New Town (NBNT) – Dredging & Reclamation
Owner: Bahrain Ministry of Works and Housing
Budget: $176 million
Scope of work: The work includes dredging and reclamation of 14 islands at 40 million cu m sea, where a new township composed of 17,000 units to house about 60,000 residents will be built over an area of 740 hectares.
Update: Sources indicate that, reclamation work is going ahead of schedule and will be completed in February 2008.

North Bahrain New Town (NBNT) – Phase 1
Owner: Bahrain Ministry of Works and Housing
Budget: $100 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of 122 houses with a total of 15,000 housing-units at North Bahrain New Town (NBNT) development.
Update: According to the sources close to the project, Phase 1 of North Bahrain New Town will be re-tendered as the Ministry of Works and Housing has refused the submitted bids as they were overpriced.

Bahrain Bay Development – Phase 2 – Arcapita Headquarters
Owner: Bahrain Bay Development
Budget: $160 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a six-storey headquarters or Arcapita with a total built-up area of 51,500 sq m. The work also includes a 21,500 sq m car parking space. The development is located opposite the Diplomatic area and next to the Shaikh Isa bin Salman causeway.
Update: Construction is going ahead of schedule with all foundation work completed.

DTZ – Infinity Tower
Owner: DTZ Company
Budget: $150 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a 53-storey, 85,000 sq m residential tower on a 3,945 sq m island offshore the Seef District. The tower will have a seven-storey car-park for 750 vehicles. The development will include luxury facilities of entertainment, shopping and sports like gardens, gyms, swimming pools, cafes and restaurants.Apartments will vary from a single bedroom to four bed ooms duplex storeys apartments (penthouses) and  have shaded balconies overlooking landscapes, the sea or Bahrain island. The tower was designed to save energy by shades and by making use of natural air for cooling.
Update: According to the sources close to the project, tender documents will be issued in January, 2008.

Al Areen Desert Spa & Resort – Al Waha Resort
Owner: Enshaa Development Real Estate Company
Budget: $100 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a five-star 250-room hotel, multi-purpose hall, 91 executive serviced apartments and 120 condominiums covering a total area of 51,900 sq m situated at the north-eastern end of the Al Areen development scheme. It will overlook a world-class water park to the west as well as the Al Areen Wildlife Sanctuary and will be directly linked to the adjacent mall.
Update: According to the sources close to the project, the project is still under design and tender documents are expected to be issued in May 2008.

Kuwait
Silk City

Owner: Kuwait Ministry of Public Works
Budget: $86 billion
Scope of work: This project involves the construction of a large complex built up on the Subiya peninsula across the Bay of Kuwait. It will cover an area of 250 sq km. The centre of the city will be a 1,001-m-high skyscrapers (Mubarak Tower). The city will also be made up of various zones including cultural, film, media, industrial, business, sports, and leisure, environment and health cities. There will also be a national wildlife convention centre, exhibition centres, parks and housing for 700,000 people.
Update: Sources indicated that Kuwait Municipal Council has approved to proceed with Silk City development. The Council has also approved to build Jaber Al Ahmed Bridge at the development.

Kuwait Railway
Owner: Kuwait Ministry of Public Works
Budget: $1.4 billion
Scope of work: The project calls for the design, build and operation (DBO) of a rapid transit network within Kuwait City. This network will be linked to national rail system with two new lines. The first track will run from the port city of Umm Qasr in Iraq on the northern border to Qasr on the border with Saudi Arabia in the south. The second line will run west from Kuwait City to the Saudi border at Salemy. A series of spur lines from these tracks will link to the ports of Shuwaikh and Shuaiba, while a further branch will connect to Bubiyan Island. The project aims to link the GCC states to Europe.
Update: SParsons Brinckerhoff Group and Kuwait Technical Consulting will complete transport model for Kuwait Municipality by the end of February 2008.

Subiya Causeway (Shaikh Jaber Al Ahmed Al Sabah Causeway)
Owner: Kuwait Ministry of Public Works (MPW)
Budget: $1.5 billion
Scope of work: The work includes the design and construction of a 36 km causeway across the Bay of Kuwait connecting Shuwaikh Port/Ghazali Expressway with the Subiyah New Town Development. A 3 km elevated road through the Shuwaikh Port area, an interchange north of Shuwaikh Port, 27 km low-level bridge across the bay, a main bridge with a span of 150 to 200 m, a 25 hectare transition island developed towards Subiyah for maintenance and emergency services and a 5 km approach road onshore in Subiyah are included in the causeway. The causeway will have three lanes plus an emergency lane in both directions.
Update: Sources indicated that Kuwait Municipal Council has approved to build Jaber Al Ahmed Bridge.

Kuwait National Assembly Building Extension
Owner: Kuwait Ministry of Public Works (MPW)
Budget: $100 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of three buildings with a built-up area of 44,337 sq m in total. It will include a six-storey member’s office building, housing 75 staff members, a three-storey information technology centre and a six-storeys civil defence building. The development will be situated on the cornice in Kuwait.
Update: According to the sources close to the project, Alamiah Building Company was the lowest bidder by $100.7 million. Followed by Kuwait Dynamics with a $105.7 million. Ministry of Public Works is expected to take about three months to evaluate the bids.

Kuwait Business Town – Two Towers
Owner: Kuwait Business Town Holding Company (KBT)
Budget: $80 million
Scope of work: The work includes the design and construction of a mixed-use complex in the Al-Mirqab district in Kuwait City. The development will have two towers of which one will be 40 storeys and the other will be 36 storeys. The towers will includes mall, shops, offices, convention centre, leisure and entertainment facilities and a multi-storey car park. Kuwait Business Town development includes four more towers. Two of the towers will be 27 storeys, the third will be 26 storeys and the fourth will be 29 storeys.
Update: Sources indicated that award is now due.

Oman
Al Madina Al Zarqa (Blue City) Development – Phase 1
Owner: Al Sawadi Investment and Tourism (ASIT)
Budget: $1.9 billion
Scope of work: The first phase of the project will involve the construction of four beach resorts comprising 2000 hotel rooms, 45,000 residential units, two golf courses, a golf community, a state-of-the-art aquarium and a shopping complex. The total area of the entire project of the Blue City development is 35 sq km.
Update: Construction is going according to schedule. Phase 1 will be completed in stages starting in 2009.

InterContinental Muscat Hotel Expansion
Owner: Oman Tourism Development Company
Budget: $800 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a five-star, 600-room low-rise hotel building atIntercontinental Muscat covering 15,000 sq m.
Update: Sources indicate that, Project Analysis & Control Systems International has been appointed as the project manager. Geo-Resources Consultancy has been appointed as the environmental consultant.

Sohar Health City
Owner: World Health Organisation (WHO)
Budget: $300 million
Scope of work: The project calls for design and construction of health city to be located in Sohar.
Update: Sources indicated that the board of Sohar Health City has been holding several meetings with health services of Sohar on the measures to be taken for the progress of this project.

Jabal Al Akhadar Hotel
Owner: Oman Tourism Development Company
Budget: $150 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a new hotel located at Al Jabel Al Akdar area in Oman.
Update: Bids were due to be opened last month.

Sharqiyah Region Roads – Wadi Dima Roads
Owner: Oman Ministry of Transport & Communications
Budget: $30 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of Dima and Al Taiyyin internal roads (Wadi Dima Roads).
Update: Sources indicate that the main contractor has not been appointed yet.

Sharqiyah Region Roads – Wadi Bani Khalid Roads
Owner: Oman Ministry of Transport & Communications
Budget: $20 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of Wadi Bani Khalid internal roads in Sharqiyah Region.
Update: It is understood that, Construction has not started yet. Only mobilisation work is going on Sharqiyah Roads.

Qatar
Lusail Real Estate Development – Masterplan
Owner: Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company
Budget: $6.3 billion
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a new real estate development that will cover 35 km to the north of the capital Doha. The development will include hotels, villas, apartments, more than 300,000 sq m of retail space along 8.5 km of shoreline, a large blue water lagoon with two marinas, leisure and entertainment facilities which will include two golf courses, schools, parks, mosques and medical facilities.
Update: According to sources close to the project, Hyder Consulting – Halcrow – Cowi venture is still working on the primary infrastructure plan, only the first of infrastructure has been out for tender, construction on which is scheduled to start.

Lusail Real Estate Development – Qatar Entertainment City
Owner: Abu Dhabi Investment House (ADIH)
Budget: $3 billion
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a variety of leisure facilities and resorts for individuals and families including park rides, four five-star hotels, each with 300 to 400 rooms, coffee shops, restaurants, gardens and theme parks, as well as world class theatres. The Lusail Entertainment District is to be built on a one million sq m area accommodating about 50,000 people, depending on the seasons.
Update: Sources indicated that the design work is still in progress. First phase of the development that will include infrastructure work has planned to be completed in 2011.

Energy City Qatar – Masterplan
Owner: Energy City Qatar
Budget: $2.6 billion
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of an intellectual and technology centre, education and training centre, shipping and trading centre, oil and gas producers centre, service industry centre, infrastructure and downstream centre, and an information, press and associations centre. It will also host the Gulf Mercantile Exchange (GMEX) as well as hotels, shopping malls and exhibition halls in next phases. Covering an area of t1.2 million sq m, Energy city is located in Lusail .
Update: According to sources close to the project, EMEA Enterprise Solutions has been appointed as the consultant to design, build and operate security services for Energy City Qatar.

Lusail Real Estate Development – Infrastructure – 1
Owner: Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Company
Budget: $500 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of sewage works, storm water and electrical networks, civil and structural works, roads, water and irrigation networks and telecommunication systems. It will also include more than 21 km of roads, street lighting and almost 1 million sq m of landscaping work. The power transmission and distribution systems needed include 15 substations, 42 km of telecoms cables and 14 km of utility tunnels. one of infrastructure is the one located next to the 2 marinas in Lusail Development.
Update: Sources indicate that the main contract will be awarded in January.

North Road Project – Phase 4
Owner: Qatar Public Works Authority (PWA) (Ashghal)
Budget: $500 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of the fourth phase of North Road which will extend from Zabara Intersection to Ras Usheirej. It includes the connecting bridge between Qatar and Bahrain, along nearly 35 km. The work includes construction of a four-track dual carriage with service road on sides of the road, six multi-layered interchanges, three camel crossing underpasses, in addition to the development of infrastructure network and landscaping.
Update: Sources indicate that tender document for the main contract is expected to be issued in May 2008.

World Gardens Development
Owner: Qatar Public Works Authority (PWA) (Ashghal)
Budget: $500 million
Scope of work: This project will be one of the most ambitious schemes developed till date in the state. It will cover an area of 2 million sq m and consist of several climate-controlled domes, each with a specific theme such as Malaysian rain forest and Arabian reef. It will also have theme rides, a boutique hotel, the world’s largest fire, water and light show and an international convention centre.
Update: The project is still under design work. 

New Doha International Airport (NDIA) Project – Phase 2 – Catering Facility
Owner: New Doha International Airport Steering Committee
Budget: $370 million
Scope of work: The involves the construction of a catering facility at the new Doha International Airport..
Update: Sources indicate that Muhibbah Engineering & Contracting Gulf has been appointed as the main contractor.
 
Lusail Real Estate Development – Four Commercial Towers
Owner: Salam International Investments
Budget: $278 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of four office towers at the Lusail project’s marina. The  towers are on four adjacent plots facing the Doha Golf Club on one side and the Arabian Gulf on the other. The buildings are connected with each other through a shared parking area and through a private entrance on the ground floor.
Update: Tender documents are expected to be issued in February 2008.

New Doha International Airport (NDIA) Project – Ras Abu Aboud Road
Owner: New Doha International Airport Steering Committee
Budget: $200 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the construction of an extension of the Ras Abu Aboud road. The road will connect to the highway that leads to New Doha International. It will include construction of bridges, tunnels and underpasses. The project is considered as a part of the Doha International Airport.
Update: According to the sources close to the project, construction has just started on the development.

Saudi Arabia

SRO – North Railway (Madina Dhiba Tabuk Abu Ajram)
Owner: Saudi Railways Organization (SRO)
Budget: $10 billion
Scope of work: of work: The project calls for expanding the Saudi railway network to serve the northern sea coast and Tabuk in the northwest region of Saudi Arabia. The railway will extend from Madinah all the way north to Dhiba on the Red Sea, then northeast to Tabuk at the Saudi-Jordanian borders to Abu Ajram in northwest Al Nufud region where it meets the Maaden phosphate railway. The contract will be on a design, build, operate and transfer (DBOT) basis
Update: Sources indicated that Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) has signed a $21 million supply contract with FreightCar America for 200 double stacking railcars.

Alya Taiba in Medina
Owner: Taiba Investment and Real Estate Development Company
Budget: $2 billion
Scope of work: The project calls for design and construction of 400 residential units which will be built on a 200,000 sq m plant in Al Qaswaa area of Madinah.
Update: Sources indicate that design work has been completed. Ground breaking is expected shortly.

Saudi Iraqi Border Electrified Fence
Owner: Saudi Arabia Ministry of Defense & Aviation
Budget: $2 billion
Scope of work: The project calls for the supply and installation of a security fence along the entire length of 900 km border with Iraq. It also includes the construction of housing complexes for soldiers, border guards and their families complete with schools, mosques and sports facilities and malls.
Update: Sources indicate that bids have been submitted by 14 groups for contract.

King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) Expansion Project – Railway
Owner: Saudi Arabia General Authority of Civil Aviation
Budget: $1 billion
Scope of work: The build, own/operate and transfer (BOT) project calls for the design, construction and operation of a 25-km high-speed railway transportation system at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, linking the airport with Makkah-Madinah railway (which passes through Jeddah). The railway will serve passengers after the airport’s new terminals are built and existing terminals are expanded. The railway is initially planned to have multi tracks and to pass through the airport at different sides.
Update: Sources indicated that Saudi Arabia General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has signed a project management and supervision contract with Dar Al-Handasah (Shair & Partners) Company at $69 million. The contract duration is five years.

Sun Rise Cities
Owner: Arriyadh Development Company
Budget: $1 billion
Scope of work: The project calls for design and construction of integrated residential community on at least 2 million sq m land in North East Riyadh, on the eastern side of more than 3 million sq m development. The western side will feature a Technical Services City project. A 60-m-wide road will pass between the Sun Rise Cities and the Technical Services City. Sun Rise Cities will include 1,040 residential plots and 192 retail and commercial plots. It also covers entire infrastructure and utilities including power, water, sewage and telecom networks. Infrastructure also includes road lighting, gates and landscaping.
Update: Sources close to the project indicate that Arriyadh Development Company has announced designs for Sun Rise Cities and Technical Services City projects.

Al Khaldiyah Tunnel in Makkah
Owner: Taif Investment and Tourism Company
Budget: $556 million
Scope of work: The project calls for design and construction of a 11,000 m tunnel through Jebel Kara hard rock connecting taif with Makkah. The three-land tunnel will support Alhoda, Kara, Makkah, Altaif, Alsayl Alkabir and Mecca roads.
Update: Sources indicated that the feasibility study of the project has been completed and is awaiting government approvals.

Tourism City Development in Hail
Owner: Gulf Canadian International Company
Budget: $370 million
Scope of work: The project calls for design and construction of a tourism city located on the highway which connects Qaseem and Hail and the end of Al Jouf road. The project will be carried out in five stages. The project will include five-star hotel, snow city, marine city, zoo, marine garden and other various activities.
Update: Sources indicated that Gulf Canadian International Company launched new Tourism City Development in Hail.

Jeddah Riviera Mall
Owner: MAF Shopping Malls – Al Ghazzawi Group JV
Budget: $300 million
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of a new mall in the Red Sea coast city on Prince Sultan Street covering an area of 100,000 sq m. The work will also include 300 shopping outlets and 3,000 car parking units.
Update: Sources close to the project indicated that MAF Shopping Malls – Al Ghazzawi Group JV has signed an agreement to jointly develop Riviera Mall in Jeddah.

Health Clinics at Yanbu Industrial City
Owner: Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu (RCJY)
Budget: $200 million
Scope of work: The work includes procurement, construction, testing, commissioning and all works necessary for a complete operational facility of prototype primary health clinics at Yanbu . 
Update: Sources close to the project indicated that the RFP documents will be issued this month.

Yanbu Industrial City Waterfront Development – Dredging
Owner: Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu (RCJY)
Budget: $150 million
Scope of work: The project calls for dredging and excavation of Phases 1 and 2 of the waterfront development of the Yanbu Industrial City.
Update: Sources indicated that China Harbour Engineering Company is the lowest bidder for the dredging at $100 million. An award was expected last month.

United Arab Emirates
 
Yas Island Development – Abu Dhabi – Masterplan
Owner: Aldar Properties
Budget: $38.78 billion
Scope of work: The project calls for the construction of a mixed-use tourist development, including residential space, hotels, beaches, marinas, retail space, golf facilities, equestrian and motor racing facilities as well as a Ferrari theme park located opposite to the coast of Abu Dhabi. The retail areas will occupy an area of 300,000 sq m and the island will have a total development area of 2,500 hectares, which is approximately one-third the size of the island of Abu Dhabi. It will also feature a beachfront shoreline of approximately 32 km.
Update: Sources indicate that construction on the highway which provides access to Yas Island has started.

Al-Reem Island Development (Abu Shuoom Island Development – Emirates Pearl) – Shams – Masterplan
Owner: Sorouh Real Estate Company
Budget: $6.432 billion
Scope of work: Planned to be developed in phases, the project will involve the construction of 22,000 residential units, hotels, schools, hospitals, health clinics, mosques, offices and other leisure and entertainment facilities. It will also include a central park covering one million sq ft, 5 km of water canals and related infrastructure facilities. It is estimated that the project will house around 100,000 people over an area of 1.32 million sq m and will involve the construction of more than 100 buildings, each consisting of three to 70 storeys.
Update: According to the sources close to the project, Dhafir Development and Contracting will be developing and constructing Atlantis Towers on Shams at Al Reem Island. Construction is expected to start.

Dubailand – Remraam Project – Masterplan
Owner: Mizin
Budget: $4 billion
Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of mixed-use developmen next to Arabian Ranches and near the golf courses of Golf City. The project will be developed into two phases; Phase 1 will comprise seven-storey buildings offering 2,090 units, parks, swimming pools, gym and health clubs, sauna and steam rooms, tennis and basketball courts, walking paths, kids playing areas and open spaces for recreation. The community also features a full-fledged mall, nurseries and parking facilities.
Update: Source indicated that, Phase 1 of Remraam has been sold out. Mizin will launch Phase 2 of Remraam in early 2008.

Dubailand – Attractions & Experience World – Legends Development – Residential Legends – Buildings
Owner: Tanmiyat Group
Budget: $1.85 billion
Scope of work: The will involve the construction of five office buildings (Trade Legends), 500 independent and semi-detached residential villas (Living Legends), five hotels (Legends Leisure Complex) and 12 residential buildings, each consisting of eight to 20 storeys as well as some community facilities that will form the Residential Legends scheme within Dubailand.
Update: Sources indicated that negotiations with bidders has started and a contract was expected to have been awarded last month.

The Boulevard – Ajman
Owner: Ajman Holding Group
Budget: $1.5 billion
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of 14 residential and commercial towers ranging from 14 to 30 storeys, as well as a mall, a five-star business hotel and more than 2,000 basement and podium parking spaces. Other amenities include swimming pools, health clubs, a nursery and day-care facilities. The project is located just 25 minutes from Dubai International Airport on the Emirates Road.
Update: Sources indicated that Phase 1 of the project is expected to complete in the second quarter of 2009.

Dubailand – Bawadi Development Project – Asia-Asia Hotel
Owner: Tatweer
Budget: $1.625 billion
Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of Asia-Asia Hotel, the world’s largest hotel that will form the centrepiece of the development, providing 6,500 rooms of which 5,100 will be four-star and the remaining 1,400 will be five-star units.

Al-Reem Island Development (Abu Shuoom Island Development – Emirates Pearl) – Shams – Tameer Towers
Owner: Al Tameer Real Estate Establishment
Budget: $1.6 billion
Scope of work: The project calls for the construction of a office tower and four contemporary residential towers offering panoramic sea views, a seven-star hotel and serviced apartments overlooking the sea.
Update: Sources indicate that RMJM has been appointed as the lead consultant on the development.

Dubailand – Eco-Tourism World – Al Barari Development – Phase 2
Owner: Abwab Real Estate – Green Works
Budget: $1.45 billion
Scope of work: The project will involve the development of a mixed-use scheme that will revolve around the theme of botanical gardens. Phase 2 will include: A) Healing Haven – 88 secluded chalets including spa, B) Amphitheatre – hosting musical shows, concerts and plays and an art museum, a library, an art exhibition hall, art material shops, a dance and drama school, galleries, restaurants and a grand ballroom, C) The Village Square – including small shops, cafes and sporting facilities, D) Al Zeitoon – 300 duplex and loft apartments and E) The Al Aman – including a six-star, 120-suite, deluxe boutique hotel and restaurants.
Update: Sources indicate that tender documents were expected to be issued by December 30, 2007.

Abu Dhabi International Airport Expansion – Phase 1 – New Midfield Passenger Terminal
Owner: Supervision Committee for the Expansion of the Abu Dhabi International Airport (Scadia)
Budget: $1.2 billion
Scope of work: The will involve the construction of a new passenger terminal, a cargo terminal with international free trade zones, maintenance and catering facilities, commercial components and hotels. The terminal will have a built-up area of approximately 220,000 sq m and feature 50 contact gates.
Update: Sources indicate that the main contract was expected to be awarded by the end of December 2007.

Building Materials City (BMC) – Masterplan
Owner: Manazel Real Estate Company
Budget: $1 billion
Scope of work: The project calls for the design and construction of ‘Building Materials City’ with a total area of 23 hectares. It will be divided into twoo zones: Commercial Zone: featuring17 office towers, each equipped with the latest technologies and conveniences to facilitate business and huge, 100,000 sq m shopping centre. The ground floor will accommodate a large hypermarket and a variety of retail shops. The first floor will accommodate building materials retailers and a part of regular retail shops. The second floor will be dedicated for materials shops and a food court. There will also be a temporary exhibition centre and a corner for the building materials exchange in that floor. Residential Zone: 32 residential towers spread throughout the development.
Update: Sources indicated that, the mall and Prestige Tower  in the commercial zone have been awarded to Fibrex Company. S & H Engineering is the piling contractor and has started working on the site.

Culture Village Project (formerly Arabian Bays)
Owner: Sungwon Corporation
Budget: $550 million
Scope of work: The project will involve the construction of 195 residential buildings each consisting of 24 storeys, seven commercial and retail
