Jumeirah Golf Estates, Dubai’s premier residential golf development and host venue for the Dubai World Championship from 2009, last month awarded two key building contracts for Phase A of the property development.
ANC Contracting will build 99 villas within the Flame Tree Ridge community and 66 villas in the Fireside community. The company has already mobilised to site and undertaken preparatory works in advance for the villa construction, which is now under way and on schedule.
Additionally, Al Naboodah Laing O’ Rourke will construct the Whispering Pines cottages and casitas, together with the Norman Clubhouse and ancillary buildings.
“This award is significant to us as a business, in view of the high-quality nature of Jumeirah Golf Estates and its position as one of the world’s leading golf developments,” says Norman Haste, chief operating officer of Al Naboodah Laing O’Rourke.
“The nature of the Whispering Pines and the Norman Clubhouse projects has allowed us to introduce a number of innovative pre-fabrication and other ‘modular’ construction techniques which will ensure the highest levels of programme certainty, quality and safety standards for the client.”
The site for the first phase of villas at Whispering Pines has been excavated for foundations with underground piping work completed.
The Norman Clubhouse, which broke ground in December, is also moving along with excavation for foundations now in progress. The 107,000 sq ft clubhouse, will be home to an ultra-modern practice and golf academy, as well as restaurants, bars and a spa. The clubhouse’s sports centre will feature a fully-equipped gymnasium, tennis centre, lap pool and a leisure-focused lagoon. “Work on the grading of the car park and the tennis centre has been completed and permanent construction works are set to commence soon,” says a spokesman for the contractor. The clubhouse will be fully operational by November next year in time for the inaugural Dubai World Championship.
Meanwhile, work on the Earth and Fire golf courses is advancing, with the grassing of the Earth course to be completed this month and the Fire course by August.
