

Damac unveils Westside at Lincoln Park
Damac Properties has announced the launch of its project in Dubailand called – Westside at Lincoln Park.

Marubeni wins Fujairah 2 power project
Marubeni Corporation has won the right to build, own and operate Fujairah 2 power and water project in the Emirate of Fujairah in the UAE.
The 20-year power and water purchase agreement (“PWPA”) was officially signed with Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (“Adwea”) on early last month.
Marubeni formed a consortium with International Power (“IPR”) for the international competitive bid solicited by Adwea in April 2007.
With a total project cost of $2.8 billon, inclusive of the costs of constructing power generation and seawater desalination plant, it is the largest newly constructed independent water and power projects (“IWPP”) in the UAE.
The project includes the construction of 2,000MW power and 130 MIGPD seawater desalination plant to be supplied by Alstom of France and Switzerland and Societe International de Dessalement of France respectively. All production capacity will be sold under the 20-year PWPA to the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company (“ADWEC”). Marubeni-IPR consortium will also carry out the operation and maintenance of the plant. The plant will utilise the latest combined cycle power technology and hybrid water desalination technology which combines multiple effect distillation system and reverse osmosis system to maximize efficiency and minimize gas consumption and emission of CO2.
Aspire unveils new brand identity

Marina tower completed
Diamond Investments (DI) has announced the handover of Marina Diamond III, the third in the series of six buildings in the Dubai Marina.
The 206 units were designed in line with Diamond Investment’s strategy to develop real estate that is high end quality at affordable prices, with sizes ranging from 420 to 737 and 1,009 sq feet, says a spokesman.
Marina Diamond III will consist of studios, one bedroom and two bedrooms apartments and have several amenities including swimming pool, children’s pool and a fully equipped gymnasium. The Marina Diamond complex is within walking distance of a wonderful waterfront boulevard, a string of shopping malls, luxury beach resorts, golf courses, and a new business district.
Hyder makes two new appointments
Hyder Consulting, the award-winning engineering, environmental, planning and management consultancy, has announced two new senior appointments to its Middle East team.
Darcy Buryniuk has joined from working recently in Saudi Arabia, China and Hong Kong, as regional director for Rail based in Hyder Consulting’s Dubai office, and Deirdre Dudley-Owen, strategic waste consultant has joined the company from the UK as a regional chartered waste manager based in Abu Dhabi.
Al Bakhit launches new mobile pump
Al Bakhit Construction Equipment, a leading Dubai-based equipment supplier of concrete pumps, tower cranes, passenger hoists and flake ice plants for the construction sector, has recently launched a new range of long reach concrete mobile pumps from Sany and is keen to exhibit the same at the forthcoming Big 5 show.
The new pump, with a reach of 56 m, is already being used at a construction site in Dubai. The pump is mounted on a Volvo FM 420 Swedish chassis, which has been fitted with stability when driving on the road, says Paul Austin-Price, deputy general manager, Al Bakhit Construction Equipment, the UAE agent for Chinese manufacturer Sany.
The rear-steer axle also makes such a large unit more manoeuvrable on smaller sites.
The pump is very flexible when working on large slabs making it easy to pour the concrete to the exact required spot, he adds.
JXB awards air traffic system tenders
Work on the Dubai World Central International Airport (JXB) – the core of Dubai World Central, the 140 sq km aviation community being built in Jebel Ali – has reached a new milestone with the awarding of two key air traffic management system tenders.
Emirati firm International Aeradio (IAL), a leading provider of cutting-edge technology has been awarded the Meteorological System contract at JXB, while the UK’s Park Air Systems (PAS), the world leader in air traffic control solutions will be responsible for VHF Radar implementation.
Set to become the world’s largest airport, JXB – capable of handling 120-150 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo per annum – has been designed to handle the emirate’s ambition to attract 15 million tourists annually by 2015.
Procurement and installation of these packages has already commenced.
Hill organises fire safety seminar
Hill International recently organised four half-day training seminars for Tyco Fire & Security employees, focusing on “Contract Awareness and Management” and “Project Risk Management”.
The training seminar was led by director Brian Allan, and project director Gary Beamish and senior consultant David Greig.
David Mortimore from Tyco Fire and Security expressed delight with the training and commented: “These well-tailored seminars will provide Tyco staff with awareness and understanding of ‘best practice’ methods relating to contract law and project administration and, ultimately, lead to improvements in the service that Tyco can offer to its clients.”
Hill International has developed this series of training seminars as per Tyco’s requirements.
