

Work on the Green line, also known as the second phase of the Dubai Metro project, is making substantial progress with several components of the segment under various stages of completion.
Work on the underground station is in full swing, and preparatory works for the elevated north section are progressing well and will allow foundation and sub-structure works to commence in late summer, says a spokesman for the developer.
“At Gubaiba underground station, the construction of diaphragm wall was completed as scheduled,” says Adnan Al Hammadi, director of construction, Rail Agency. “Al Ras Station diaphragm wall construction is planned for completion in early September, and Palm Deira diaphragm wall construction has commenced while Baniyas Square Station and Salah Al Din Station is due to start in early to mid August 2007, respectively.”
“At Sayeediya, 80 per cent of the utility diversions are completed and traffic diversions are due to commence in August to facilitate the construction of the main station box. In order to construct the diaphragm wall for the cut and cover section of Burjuman Station, 100 panels out of 118 panels have been constructed thus recording an 85 per cent progress. Other works include Trial Trenches for pier positions at areas like Oud Metha, Health Care City and Jedaff, whereas road diversions are planned to commence in September around Al Seef to the Broad Cast Roundabout. The diversion will involve adding an extra lane to the Al Seef road as part of the Maktoum Bridge widening plan, “he added.
Since the Green Line is designed for cater to the Central Business Districts of Dubai it has a more localised route that focuses on two of Dubai’s most densely populated areas – Deira and Bur Dubai, says the spokesman. It will run from Al Ittihad Square through Deira and Bur Dubai to Burjuman, through Health Care City to Jadaff in the South, and from Al Ittihad Square running along Al Nahda Road towards Qusais 2 in the North.
