World-renowned architect Cesar Pelli has drawn up an incandescent architectural design for the new Sidra Medical Research Centre in Qatar, which both reflects and celebrates the sky.
Being built by the Qatar Foundation, the landmark development will be the first centre in the region based on the North American model, and will provide the highest standards of healthcare.
A modern structure of steel, glass and white ceramic tile, the dramatic design and landscaping includes three spectacular atriums that serve as indoor healing gardens, water features in the lobby and drop-off areas, and a comprehensive art collection.
The atriums divide the facility into sections and accentuate the dedicated entrances of the “three hospitals within a hospital, including one for women and one for children.
The initial clinic will be constructed during the first phase, with the second clinic building – a mirror image – to be built later. Work is scheduled to begin early next year, with the first phase opening in late 2010.
