Kuwait-based contracting firm Recafco is currently handling projects worth a total of KD75 million ($259 million), according to Reda Al Ramady, the construction manager of the company.

These include the construction of 460 houses, public buildings and main services at Block Two in Saad Al Abdulla area; the special training centre at Shuwaikh campus; Kuwait Oil Tanker Company’s (KOTC) main office building at Shuwaikh; a perimeter fence for the northern and southern border of Kuwait for Ministry of Interior; and a perimeter fence for the new university city at Al Shadadiya area in Kuwait.
The largest ongoing project in its portfolio is the construction of the 460 houses under a contract worth KD32.5 million. The contract, which also involves maintenance and all infrastructure facilities, is being implemented for the Public Authority for Housing Welfare and is to be completed within 33 months. The scope of work will include construction of six different house types, two kindergarten schools, intermediate and secondary schools, two mosques, residences for the Imam and Muazzin, shops, main sub-stations as well as site and infrastructure works including internal roads and parking. The contract also includes electro-mechanical works such HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning), plumbing and fire fighting, electrical services and all external and internal finishing works.
Recafco is also building a special training centre (STC) at Shuwaikh Campus under a contract worth KD27.9 million. The three-storey centre, being built for the Public Authority For Applied Education And Training (PAAET), will have a total built-up area of 92,410 sq m and is scheduled for completion in 27 months. Keo International is the consultant on the project and Turner-Projacs is the construction manager. Besides the training centre, the scope of work also includes a 58,420 sq m car-park building that is linked to the teaching building by two link bridges at the first floor level and complete electro-mechanical and internal and external finishing works. The external works include open parking areas, roads, guardhouses, waiting lounges, pavers and planting areas, among others.
“The building has a basement, which will house mechanical areas and underground parking and also doubles as C4 level civil defense shelters to provide gastight nuclear protection,” says Ramady.
A striking project that Recafco is working on is the dhow-shaped main office building for Kuwait Oil Tanker Company. The project worth KD8.9 million is being built over a 7,150 sq m site area, and is expected to be completed in two years. The project has Projacs as the construction manager, Al-Jazeera Consultants as the consultant.
“This prestigious project has sophisticated architectural finishes, involving a exterior façade that is a combination of marble and aluminium composite panel cladding along with curtain walls in a curved profile and extruded aluminium aerofoil louvres,” he says. The main office building comprises nine floors above ground level and two basement floors, with a total built-up area of around 36,000 sq m.
Recafco’s other projects include:
• The supply, installation and maintenance of a 465 km perimeter security fence to secure the northern and southern land borders of Kuwait for the Ministry of Interior under a KD3.4 million to be built within duration of 15 months.
• The design, construction and supervision of a 14 km perimeter fence for the new University City at Al Shaddhiya, worth KD2.1 million.
