The Industry and Commerce Ministry has issued new regulations regarding the import of Saudi sand into Bahrain making it clear that the sand could now be imported only through the Saudi Bahrain Transport Company.
Those companies planning to import sand can obtain the licence from the Bahrain Investor's Centre in the Seef Mall.
Sand importers must be registered with the ministry and be members of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry. It is also mandatory for such companies to have a fenced area near the King Fahad Causeway for them to stock the sand, the ministry spokesman said.
“The importers must have a mechanism for distributing the sand among consumers in the country. They must also abide by all health, environmental and security regulations,” he added.
The ministry states that these measures will be in force while a feasibility study continues about the possibility of setting up another sand import and distribution company by joint Bahraini and Saudi investors.
