Al Babtain wins key contracts

Al Babtain, a Saudi Arabia-based leader in transmission and distribution systems, has recently signed several contracts in the kingdom, once again boosting its presence as a major player in the region.

These include a SR21 million ($5.6 million) contract entered by the company with Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco), involving the design, manufacture and supply of octagonal shape hot-dip galvanised steel poles, 15, 16 and 18 m in height, and a voltage rating of 13.8 kV for power distribution.
With this breakthrough project, Al Babtain has become the first supplier of hot-dip galvanised steel poles for power distribution.to Saudi Aramco.
Saudi Aramco, which has been using wooden poles for power distribution in all its locations, will be shifting to steel poles for power distribution for the first time.
“Al Babtain is one of the leading providers of transmission and distribution products with vast experience in executing numerous domestic and international projects, thanks to our excellent design capabilities and prompt deliveries,” said area manager Mansour Al Babtain.
The project is due for completion by July 2006.
Work is also under way on a SR10 million contract with Dywidag, involving the engineering, manufacturing and erection of heavy structural steel, silos and bridges for Yanbu Cement Plant’s new cement mill.
Al Babtain has also been awarded a contract for the supply of structural steel for Hadeed’s steel plant expansion project, which includes a direct reduction iron plant and steel melt shop.
The scope of work of the project, expected to be completed by April next year, involves the manufacture and supply of platforms, heat protection sheets, pedestals, pipe bridges, structure ladle furnace, dust protection walls, light structures, elevator structures, walkways and cable bridges.
To keep up with the demand, the company has started operations at its new galvanising unit in Riyadh.
The new plant can handle 15.5 m long, 2.8 m deep and 2.25 m wide sections, allowing the company to carry out the double-dipped galvanising of longer sections of material and also add to the capacity of the company’s two existing plants in Saudi Arabia.
“With the start of new galvanising plant, Al Babtain will further expand its galvanising capacity to 72,000 tonnes per annum,” said factories manager Reda Hamed.
