The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) has chosen Nasa Multiplex as the general contractor on the Gate building of its proposed financial district.
The building, which will house the DIFC's headquarters, is scheduled to be ready by July 2004. The piling and excavation work has already been completed. ETA M&E Division has been appointed as the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contractor, and ETA Melco will supply the conveying systems. The project is being overseen by the DIFC's Real Estate Development unit.
The Gate will be the signature building of Dubai's financial 'city within a city' development. Its iconic design was drawn up by US architect Gensler.
Described as a massive processional archway, The Gate will be 15 storeys. It will offer 46,000 sq m of prime office space with retail outlets on the ground level and a three-storey basement car park for 1,500 vehicles. The DIFC's executive offices will be located on the top two levels, which will cover about 7,000 sq m. The proposed Dubai Regional Exchange will also be housed in the building, taking up about 2,000 sq m on two floors.
