York International Corporation is proud to be linked to the Dubai Marina project as HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) equipment supplier.
For the first phase of the Dubai Marina project, it is supplying five 1,850 TR (tonnes of refrigeration) Model YK open drive centrifugal chillers that have the ability to utilise an 11 kV power supply. This eliminates the need for step-down transformers that would be otherwise required for low voltage chillers. This will provide the owners valuable space saving and eliminate the energy losses and additional maintenance of transformers, says a spokesman for York Middle East, which is based in Dubai.
"At York we believe in continuous improvement and thanks to the commitment shown by our dedicated team - both at the factory and in the field - York centrifugal chillers, built to deliver the highest level of performance with trouble-free operation throughout their operational life, were obviously the best choice for the decision-makers," the York spokesman says, adding the company was justifiably proud that the project was secured purely on the basis of merit.
The company was also recently awarded the contract to supply water-cooled centrifugal chillers to the BurJuman Centre expansion and was involved in supplying this type of chillers for the Sheikh Rashid Terminal at Dubai International Airport, the Grand Hyatt - Dubai, Tabreed District Cooling Plant on Shaikh Zayed Road, Madinat Jumeirah, Mercato Center and Sharjah City Center, among others.
For the BurJuman Centre expansion, York was awarded the contract to supply large tonnage water-cooled centrifugal chillers to cater to the huge air conditioning requirements of the multi-facility shopping and leisure complex. The chiller plant is designed to produce a total cooling capacity of 13,300 tonnes and to house seven chillers, each of 1,900 tonnes. These chillers will operate on direct 11 kV power supply.
At the Dubai International Airport, five York YK open drive centrifugal chillers with the ability to work directly from a 11kV power supply were supplied. The installed capacity load was 9,750 TR. Full data integration with a third party building management system was another unique feature of this installation as well as being one of the first in the region, according to the spokesman.
York also took the initiative and offered chillers operating on CFC-free, environmentally-friendly R134a refrigerant.
At the Grand Hyatt, York supplied eight YK open drive centrifugal chillers, each of 1,000 TR capacity, operating on R134a refrigerant. Special high-efficiency motors and unit mounted solid state starters are used to comply with the stringent electrical requirements of the project.

York is constantly innovating and customising products adapted to local conditions as well as expanding distribution coverage selectively and reconfiguring production capabilities. As a result, it is well positioned to capture market share and grow its Middle East business.
In the Middle East, it has installed the largest air-cooled system in the world at the Prophet's Mosque Extension in Madinah, Saudi Arabia.
In the UAE, Gulf Sail General Trading and Al Futtaim Electronics are the local distributors for the complete range of York unitary products for Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Gulf Sail General Trading describes itself as a one-stop-shop for requirements from air conditioning equipment to the world's top brands of spare parts from Bristol Compressors, Sporlan Controls, AO Smith Motor and General Electric, among many others.
"Our service covers all of Dubai and the Northern Emirates through our mobile workshops and professional service teams and we provide technical support and site supervision, while also helping our valuable customers through the commissioning phase," says the Gulf Sail spokesman. "York International is creating a cool wave worldwide."
York Refrigeration is the world leader in industrial refrigeration systems and equipment with a capacity that is unrivalled.
York's Engineered Systems Group - formed in January 1999 from combining five major product lines - enables York to better serve customers with fully integrated systems that combine products to deliver the ideal comfort environment, the spokesman says.
In addition to manufacturing and distributing a full line of cooling and heating systems, York also sells compressors directly to OEMs. Products include ducted central air conditioning and heating systems (air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces), light commercial heating and cooling equipment (including packaged roof-top and split systems), ductless mini-split systems and reciprocating and scroll compressors for OEMs.
