Expanding

Saudi Arabian Adhesive Factory (Saaf) is on the expansion path having just been given the go-ahead by the Ministry of Industry to boost its production capacity by 4,000 tonnes per year, says Rashied Mahmoud Rashied, factory manager.

"To support our expansion plans, we have purchased new equipment from Spain which is expected to be delivered in September," he says.

Established in 1975, Saaf is one of the leading manufacturers in Saudi Arabia of adhesives, sealants, paints and coatings and concrete admixtures.

The Riyadh-based company achieved total sales of SR50 million ($13.3 million) last year and its total output of adhesives and paints touched 12,000 tonnes, Rashied adds.

"Saaf's success and growth is based on its ability and skill in efficiently meeting its customers needs and expectations.

" Its quality management system has been certified according to BS EN ISO 9002 standards for the manufacture and supply of petroleum and water-based adhesives, paints, sealants and related products," he says.

The company has two divisions: manufacturing and trading.

Its manufacturing division offers a wide range of products including:

  • Water-based adhesives: for wood; ceramic tiles; vinyl tiles (Aquafix); carton manufacturing and closing; lamination of paper; book-binding; and carpets;

  • Petroleum-based adhesives: for formica, leather shoes, foam, asphalt (all-purpose tropic); carpets (tropic); PVC pipes and fittings; cPVC pipes and fittings; and for the shoe industry (polyurethane);

  • Putties and primers: for wood and walls; gypsum boards; and NC primers;

  • Sealants: acrylic sealants for joints and crack filling and silicone sealants for aluminium and glass;

  • Concrete admixtures: Saaf Bond, a bonding agent for concrete; mortar plasticisers; Bondex for enhancing the properties of concrete; and Superbond for concrete surfaces and for roofs;

  • Paints: paint primers; plastic paint emulsions (internal and external application); non-drip no-point paint; oil paint (high and semi gloss and matt); textured paint; NC paint; sealers and lacquers; and road-marking paints;

  • Paint thinners and cleaners: normal, acrylic and lacquer thinners; paint removers, surface cleaners; and PVC adhesive cleaners; and

  • Roof coatings: acrylic, cementitious and insulative and UV (ultraviolet) protective.

    Saaf is also the distributor for the following international companies:

  • General Electric US, for silicone sealants;

  • Bostic Findley, France for hotmelt adhesives;

  • ILPA, Italy, for automobile putties;

  • Robbialac of Portugal for decorative paints; and

  • Flux Gerate Gmbh, Germany for a wide variety of barrel pumps.
