Sharjah Cement Factory is currently expanding its clinker production capacity to 1.3 million tonnes per annum. Work on the project is on schedule and is expected to be completed in mid-2002.

Sharjah Cement Factory, a division of Sharjah Cement & Industrial Development Company (SCIDC), was established in 1977 with a rated clinker capacity of 220,000 tonnes per year (tpy). The factory was expanded in 1983 when a new cement mill was installed and the total grinding capacity was increased to 1 million tpy.

One of the major suppliers of cement in the UAE, the company's cement sales aggregate to an average of about 800,000 tonnes per year since the past few years.

It has supplied large quantities of slag cement to various Adnoc projects in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, as well as other projects in Sharjah and Dubai.

According to a company spokesman, the company is registered with British Standards Institution, UK, as an accredited holder of ISO9002 and all its cements have been Kitemarked by BSI. The factory currently manufactures the following types of cement as well as ground granulated blastfurnace slag:
