Work starts on Bahrain aqua park
Work has started on a BD6 million ($15.92 million) Disney-style aqua park in the southeast of Bahrain, according to a local report.
The park will be a replica of the Sea World in Florida and will be completed early next year. The project marks the first phase of the new BD300 million Durrat Al Bahrain Resort City.
The 20 sq km township, financed by the Saudi-based Dallah Al Baraka Group, will be developed in phases over the next three years.
The BD5 million construction contract for the aqua park has been awarded to Saudi-based Fast Contracting Company's Special Projects division. The equipment is expected to cost more than BD1 million.

Dubai: As many as 171 new buildings were completed in Dubai in February at a cost of over Dh328 million ($88.6 million), according to the Building and Housing Department of Dubai Municipality.
Of them, 59 were in Deira and 112 in Bur Dubai, a report said.
They included 113 residential villas, 36 industrial, recreational and service buildings, 19 multi-storeyed apartment blocks and three hotels.
The apartment blocks consist of 302 apartments and 15 shops.
Bridge on Shaikh Zayed Road
Dubai: Part of Shaikh Zayed Road in Dubai, UAE, was closed recently to allow the setting up of a new pedestrian bridge across the busy highway, reports said.
The massive bridge, which took six months to build, is expected to open to the public in mid-June.
Seven cranes put into place the 108-m long, 4-m wide and weighing around 280 tonnes bridge over the eight traffic lanes of the highway. It was set up in three pieces during the 14-hour operation carried out by Al Naboodah Contracting Company.
The bridge - the first of its kind on the Shaikh Zayed Road - will also provide convenient access to businesses and apartments on both sides of the highway and to the Dubai World Trade Centre.
Galadari Engineering Works Company, a specialist subcontractor for steelwork, said the steel bridge had been entirely manufactured by the company at its workshop.
The bridge is of a continuous two-span box girder-type made of steel plates in three sections, two of them measuring 40 m and the centre portion 28 m in length.
The entire bridge, when assembled, weighs close to 275 tonnes.
'All the sections are completely manufactured in our workshop at Al Quoz industrial area,' company general manager Arun Goudar said.
