Schneider water solutions showcased

SCHNEIDER Electric, a global specialist in energy management, showcased its Smart Water solutions last month as part of a forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

“At the forum, we demonstrated the efficacy of our innovative solutions that will address the growing water demand in the country,” said Omar Alayoubi, water segment manager, Schneider Electric Saudi Arabia.

“Our Smart Water from our ‘Smart Cities’ portfolio provides intelligent solutions that promote efficiency and sustainability. With an estimated $66 billion to be invested by the government in plants and upgrades over the next 10 years, Schneider Electric is extremely well placed to support this investment with our technology and solutions,” he added.

The forum brought together more than 130 participants including end-users, operators, contractors, and water consultants as well as other interested parties. It was later held in Jeddah.

 

Powerscreen honours distributors

OMAN-based Genserv was among a select group of Powerscreen distributors who were honoured for their performances across a range of business disciplines.

Kwintmadi-Lonmadi, Russia, secured the top spot on the scorecard for 2012; Powerscreen of Texas, US,  secured the second position; and Genserv, the third.

The distributors were presented with awards for providing excellent customer support, achieving machine and parts sales targets, handling financial management and for their commitment to the Powerscreen brand.  In addition to these awards, “Gold” status was awarded to all top tier distributors. About 30 per cent of the dealers achieved the gold status.

Powerscreen is a leading provider of mobile crushing and screening equipment.

Tekla makes two key appointments

BUILDING information modelling (BIM) software pioneer Tekla has appointed a new management duo, as it aims to take its Middle East operations to the next level.

Paul Wallett takes on the role of area business director, having recently enjoyed a successful two-year stint as the company’s business manager, and Anwar Al Qwasmi has been recruited as the general manager for Saudi Arabia.
It is hoped that the new appointments will build on Tekla Middle East’s double-digit growth over the past three years.

 

Manara expands Tubli Gardens

MANARA Developments, a leading real estate developer specialising in affordable housing in Bahrain, has launched its Tubli Gardens Phase Three development as several of these units have already been marketed with success.

“The foundation for 19 housing units has been laid as part of Phase Three of the project,” revealed Hassan Al Bastaki, managing director of Manara Developments.

Phase One of Manara’s Tubli Gardens project consisting of 27 villas has been completed and is in the handover stage, he said.

About 35 per cent of Phase Two comprising 19 units has been completed. The developer is currently leading three projects targeted at middle and limited income earners in Bahrain.

 

UDC signs deal to build Pearl towers

UNITED Development Company (UDC), the developer behind Qatar’s man-made Pearl island project, has signed a QR795-million ($218 million) contract with a leading Qatari construction company to build the two Abraj Quartier AQ01 and AQ02 gateway office towers at The Pearl-Qatar.

Abraj Quartier is one of the 10 precincts that make up The Pearl-Qatar island. Standing tall at around 201 m on opposite sides of the main access road to The Pearl-Qatar, the two 40-storey towers will boast a built- up area of more than 230,000 sq m, said the company.

The construction works commenced in February and is expected to be completed by the end of January 2016.

Describing the contract as a major step forward for the island, UDC chief executive officer Ebrahim Al-Sulaiti said: “These towers will set the standard for the development in terms of quality and architectural articulation for exterior material and finishes and will feature comprehensive smart systems.”

The island is located 350 m from Doha’s prestigious West Bay District.

 

DSI secures $100m contracts

DRAKE and Scull International (DSI) has recently been awarded contracts collectively worth Dh369 million ($100.5 million) for the construction of three banking facilities including a major data centre in Saudi Arabia and a utility project in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

DSI has been awarded three separate contracts by Al Rajhi Bank with a combined value of Dh287 million ($78.1 million) to construct the bank’s cash and operations centres and a major data centre facility in Riyadh. The company has also secured a Dh82 million ($22.3 million) contract for the construction of a government utility project in Abu Dhabi.

“DSI is well suited for data centre projects given our proven expertise with electrical systems, design and build for the telecom industry,” said Saleh Muradweij, executive director of Drake & Scull Construction.
